“A truely wonderful experience from start to finish”
Reviewed 7 December 2010

On arrival at Kamer 01 we were warmly welcomed at the door by Peter who made us feel like old friends and so the scene was set for our stay.
We had booked the blue room which was immaculate, warm (despite it being -7 outside!) and clearly designed with a great deal of care and skill. Our room was large and airy with a separate seating area, ample wardrobe space and an iMac with useful bookmarks and a great choice of music. The bed was very comfortable with fresh crisp white linen.
The location is spot on, just adjacent to the "nine streets" with it's designer boutiques, art galleries, jewellers, gift shops, fashion shops, and great bars, cafes and restaurants.
Breakfast is a real experience, a huge menu choice and a seat beside the floor to ceiling window where you can watch the people below going about their business.
Each morning we began our meal with some expertly presented fresh fruit, and even a glass of champagne. It was a pleasure to sit and chat with Peter and Wolter who are a fabulous couple who obviously gain real pleasure from running their business.
Our stay was so relaxed, we came and went as we liked and always felt comfortable...a home from home. In the evenings there was chocolate and drinks left out for us, Peter and Wolter have thought of everything.
We considered several of the luxury hotels in Amsterdam but wanted something special and not the clinical Hilton" experience. We made the right choice...Kamer 01 is by far the best place we have ever stayed, look no further!!!!

I've traveled all over and stayed in dozens and dozens of places over the past 40 years, and Kamer 01 is one of my all-time favorites. It is charming, beautifully decorated, roomy, interesting, warm, cozy, and inviting. The central location (on the Singel canal in the center of town, with great public transportation) is spectacular, and Peter and Wolter (and Tommie the dog) are wonderful, gracious, relaxed, helpful, inviting hosts. Breakfast was delicious. It was hard to decide whether to sit and enjoy the ambience of this beautifully decorated and lovingly cared for 16th-century canal house and people-watch out the big windows all day or to walk around town and explore, so we did lots of both. We asked Peter and Wolter for restaurant advice and loved all 4 out of 4 places they recommended. The amenities were perfect for us -- internet and computer in the room, nice bathrooms, very comfortable beds, water and soft drinks and snacks. Not the place to go if you want a fitness studio and heated swimming pool, or with kids. Would work well for solo travelers, couples, friends, and for work trips or vacations. I'd go back to Amsterdam just to stay here again --

My wife and I stayed at the Kamer01 in late september 2010. I apologize to Peter and Walter for this late posting. But allow me to say time will not diminish the wonderful memories we have of our stay in Amsterdam. From the moment we arrived Peter and Walter and Tommie the puppy, were like seeing old friends. We arived a little tired from Brugge on the train but they met us with a glass of champagne and a warmth that never subsided for the remainder of our stay. Walter carried our heavy bags straight up the now famous "winding stairway" something left over from the original construction of this canal house- many centuries old. Nothing like it in the USA that's for sure. We stayed in the blue room which was nicely furnished with a "round bed" and canopy- THINK ROMANCE! and a modern European bathroom you will find very unique. We walked to the front of the apartment to look out over central Amsterdam with people on bicyles and the canal boats drifting by. We smiled that we had been smart enough to choose such a unique place. We stayed for three days and each morning our hosts presented a complete breakfast- literally to order. We wanted "european" so we went for the meat and cheese platters with an assortment of special rolls and breads. Add coffee, juice, etc.. it was perfect. As far as the city we arranged a walking tour of the red light district which turnd out to be a great time. Our guide showed us details and explained the history of the district. We realized it was completely safe and that we got to experience an important aspect of the city's culture. When we came back to our B&B each night our hosts had a complimentary bar with beer, wine, cognac and munchies waiting. We loved our nightcap!! Peter and Walter are very knowledgeable of their city and they helped us "find" everything we were looking for- they even helped us look at flights on the computer. So simply stated we loved our stay at Kamer 01 and some day we will return to our new friends in Amsterdam.

Oct. 24-28 2010,

This was my wife's and my first trip to Amsterdam and the reviews of B&B's led me to select Kamer01 run by Walter and Peter. Well, the reviews were right and now we add our name to the list of those who enjoyed their stay with them.

We stayed in the Red Room, but either room (blue was the other) have great views. The room was very comfortable and the bathroom configuration is interesting architecturally.

The breakfast was very good as well as the conversations with our Hosts and the other guests. Walter and Peter provided we novices information about Amsterdam, and great advice on restaurants, directions to places to see, and just about any topic that sprang to mind.

The B&B is close to everything. Other than our arrival via the train or departure via taxi, the rest of the time we walked. So we had three full days of casual exercise and walking tour of the old part of the city.

We would highly recommend staying with Walter and Peter. You will be made to feel quite welcome, and will be assured of a great time.

We had a fantastic time at Kamer01; as beautifully restored/modernised 16th century canal side houses go, it must be one of the best, and it's a real treat to stay in such a great building. On top of this, Peter was a wonderful host - modest, funny, engaging and helpful - and Tommie, the dog, was a fine friend for a few days, too. We stayed in the Red Room - with an iMac, a view of Singel, a great bed and an amazing bathroom - we couldn't ask for more. Breakfasts were delicious as well. Highly recommended.

We did a trip around Europe for our honeymoon and stayed at World Heritage Sites and Castles however this was one of the hotels we'll always remember. From the moment we arrived at the hotel we were speechless. It is a charming canal house that has been tastefully decorated by Peter and Wolter. Speaking of which, the company of the hosts themselves make staying at this place worth it. They make the best restraunt recommendations for you (we ate at De Kas and Tempo Doeloe), prepare the loveliest breakfasts each day and are just darn fun to talk to! We stayed in the Red Room which has a magnificent bathroom with rainshower and luxe L'Occitane amneties. It had a lovely canal view, a Mac computer with fast internet, lots of good reading material and access to the DVD library and really yummy snacks. Seriously, we found it hard to leave our room everyday.
