This hotel i very well located, close to transport, 7 minutes from Dam square with the tram and in an area with nice restaurants and shops. Rooms were clean, warm and enough big. Nice breakfast with a very happy and funny receptionist.

Room Tip: the rooms on the highest floors are big and nice! If you go with friends and book the 2 rooms on the...

Hotel Golden Bear is clean, comfortable, and (for Amsterdam) inexpensive. And, it is in a great location to all things Gay in downtown AMS (Thermos Sauna, Church (the only club that has something going on almost every night) and a gay bar (Spiker) right down the street. If you want to go to the uptown bars (De Engel/Queen's Head) it's only 4 quick tram stops (or, about a 25 minute walk through lovely AMS). And, it's steps away from the bustling Leidseplein Square where you will find bars, coffeshops, tons of places to eat, shopping, etc. There is a wonderful little grocery 1/2 a block away from the hotel that sells fresh baked goods and fruit.
Also: it's close to Anne Frank's house (get your tix on-line so you don't have to wait) and all the Museums as well as Vondel Park. Be sure to check out the newly opened Canal House Museum - it's a MUST and about 4 blocks from the Hotel.
The breakfast is a basic Dutch breakfast; nothing fancy.
It's also right next door to the The Dolphins (one of the best coffeshops in town - try the Marakessh Expresss if you are into Hash!)
The Hotel staff is friendly - Theo and David are great!!
And, everyone in their reviews go on and on and on about the steep steps: Hello everyone: It's Amsterdam! The steps are supposed to be steep (and they are!) so, gird your loins, Men, and haul your overpacked suitcase up to your room! If you need help, ASK. Someone will help you out.
We have now stayed at Hotel Golden Bear 3 times and have always been happy with our stay. We have stayed at other places (far more expensive and we even rented an apartment.....) but, we keep coming back to Hotel Golden Bear. We love it!!!!

Room Tip: #12 is our favorite but it is overlooking the street which can (at times) be noisy. But, it has two...
