The museum entrance is in the coach house located on Keisersgracht, where there is an exhbition showing aspects of Dutch history.
Going through the garden, you enter the grand house which is located on Herengracht. There are a few rooms which show the oppulence of the times. The volunteer museum staff speak excellent English and are knowledgeable and very helpful. I had a marvellous guided tour!
During my visit a staff member was playing one of the historic pianos.

The museum shows the living culture of the Amsterdam regent families in the period between the Golden Age and the Industrial Revolution. The highlight of this private house museum is the main floor with four style rooms and a large garden. The permanent exhibition includes furniture, porcelain, glass and objets d'art from the 17th, 18th and 19th century illustrates the wealth and taste of the Amsterdam patriciate from that time.
The garden of the museum is open during the public opening of the museum.
On Sunday afternoon chamber concerts are given (Geelvinck Salon) during the season, mostly on historical instruments from the Sweelinck Collection.
The museum serves as a wedding venue for wedding and partnership ceremonies (weddings are not allowed).
As of November 16, the exhibition '1813, Netherlands liberated by the Russians! " is to see.
Did you know that the Cossacks in 1813 freed the Netherlands from Napoleon and have thus paved the way for our kingdom? A neglected piece of Dutch history is under scrutiny .

This mansion was a disapointment because they only had the main floor open for touring. The other floors were closesd. They also had large flat screen tvs in each room which was annoying because it did not fit the atmosphere of the mansion. The garden seemed very messy with large tree stumps scattered throughout and things seemed a bit overgrown. I did not feel this museum was worth the admission price of 8 euro.

Another beautiful museum with lots to see and another tranquil and well kept garden. It was included on our Iamsterdam Card which encouraged our visit. Would highly recommend.

An exquisite property stretching between the Keizergracht and Herengracht. Who would have known that behind these houses are the most wonderful private gardens. A step back in time to the fortunes made and consequent very privileged lifestyles of the merchants during the time of the VOC. Well worth a visit.
