This hostel was everything we needed and more when I went to Amsterdam last june with my friends. I stayed in an 8 bed girls only room with 1 of my friends and it has a lovely little sun trap terrace out the window where we could smoke. Downstairs was a small smoking area (6 or so people), a large foyer area with a reception selling drinks and snacks, and a pool table room. For the price this place was great and in a really great location on a lovely street filled with bakery's, cares, coffee shops and souvenir stores, and only a couple minutes walk from the station. The best thing about this place was that we hardly saw any other guests and it was almost like we were the only people staying there.

Room Tip: The girls only one on the first floor had the little terrace

his is my honest opion of the place.
location: central to everything, 6 min walk to Amsterdam central train station
customer service: some what helpful
cleanness: need clean more
bathrooms: not clean often as well as bathroom and toilet is private, in own dorm of 6
extras: 1 computers to use, but you need to pay for it, as well as WIFI is slow . No Kitchen, only one small fridge. Breakfast is at basic
Noisy: quite, as everyone is stoned
Breakout area: ground floor,
Suggestions: No air condition as the room was hot here in summer. Get a faster computer.

Room Tip: Reading others reviews, I believe this an improvment.

Came here for a weekend with a group of 8 guys.

To start with the positives - The location is great, slap bang in the heart of the city.
Staff were friendly and helpful and worked with a smile. And of course it was cheap.

On to the negatives - Our room was on the top floor and there are no lifts but instead the steepest and most awkward stairs I've ever climbed. Thank goodness we only had small luggage.
Our room (8-bed dorm) was quite clean but the bathroom was quite a state. Showering was an unpleasant experience.
One member of staff on a few occasions just barged into our room uninvited, but in fairness it was to take our rubbish out. But a knock on the door would have been appreciated.
Breakfast was measly - just bread, which you had to wait patiently to toast, and a number of spreads.
There was a pool table but nothing more to get on with in the hostel.

Overall it was a quite a sub-standard accommodation, but if all you're looking for is a bed without being too fussy this could do the job for you.
Would not recommend.

Travelled with a friend for 3 days to The Dam .. Had not prebooked and took a while to find this place (think we took a very long way out of Centaal Station) receptionist really helpful and very friendly .. Bit odd to on;y have one key for a room of 8 but hey ho the staff would let you in otherwise .. Beds surprisingly comfy .. ate out rather than eat the breakfast provided yet if your backpacking its food and didnt look bad either .. Coffee was lovely .. If youve gone to Amsterdam and spent too much time worrying about what the hostel was like then you probably werent there for the same reason as other hostel users .. price is good .. got a good sleep and atmosphere welcoming .. cant say fairer than that!

I have been to Amsterdam several times and have stayed in many hostels throughout Europe.
I didn't think a lot about the place at first because is was so cold outside but the heating system in the Aroza did not work very well or at all. The location is the best part, the only good part, well I guess I could say it was inexpensive too. It was very dirty, the rooms the sheets, the bathroom, shower, only one key for 8 people, the staff acted as it was a bother to let you in the room when no one would answer the door because they were passed out. People from the street came into the smoking room and was asking me for money. I didn't care for the Alice in Wonderland paintings on the wall. I know junior high kids that can do better. The other guest were good and fun to be around. I truly wish I had the money to buy the place and turn it into what it should be. The owners are missing the boat on the opportunity they have there.

When we first arrived at Aroza, we were stunned by Amsterdams atmosphere. The hostel itself was nicely decorated, with a nice, a bit alternatice style. The reception area was nice, and it also had a weedsmokingarea, biliardroom and a nice little bar. The receptionist was very helpfull, and showed us to our rooms. When we got to the room, our beds were taken by some other guests, but we just arranged things so we slept in another bed with the help of the receptionist. The room was shared with 7 other travellers, and was relatively clean. There was one bathroom in the room, which was quite dirty. Showers hot water supply was unstable, and toiletpaper was scarce. This would all have sufficed, but the fact that our trailmix was stolen by rats was a bit over the top. We paid about 30€ for 1 night, but the price varies depending on which day you are staying in (weekeds much more expensive) In the end, Aroza Hostel was what it said in the billboard. "The cheapest hostel in town"

Room Tip: Rooms in the highest floor muffle the sound downstairs. The hostel also has free bongs that you can...
