i traveled to amsterdam during winter 2013. We were greeted well by beautiful lady. The workers are very friendly no matter day or night shift. they have wifi, bar, pool table and also smoking room downstairs. not to forget a locker at the basement. the dorm was nice, clean and in good condition. as we on budget, the staff were very helpful by giving us hot water to prepare our meals. the only sad thing was the heater is not functioning at all, imagine how we sleep in very cold temperature for 4 nights. we asked to change the dorm but still the heater in the dorm is not functioning. if they repair the heater, aroza's is the perfect place to stay.

Hstel Aroza is the perfect location for exploring the central part of Amsterdam. I stayed with a friend for the weekend and would definitely stay again. Beds were comfortable and although there was no wifi in the bedrooms, there was downstairs and wasn't an issue. Close to all amenities. Walking distance to everything. Bathrooms clean enough, after all the negative comments I was pleasantly surprised, people need to know that it's a hostel NOT a hotel. Don't expect much and you'll always end up enjoying it!!!

A friend and I stayed at Aroza Hostel in November 2013 as we spent a couple of days in Amsterdam. The location of the hostel was perfect: it was located on Nieuwendijk, one of the main streets with supermarkets, restaurants and coffee shops, and only a five minute walk from Centraal Station. That's probably the only positive thing about the hostel from my point of view - other than the cheap price and the cool acoustic guitar, which hung on the reception wall.
The staff were friendly even though they seemed a bit confused and like they didn't care for their guests. We stayed at a room with 8 beds and own bathroom and the other guests at the room were pretty high so they slept most of the time. The bathroom locker didn't function and it was rather disgusting - it seemed as though they didn't clean the room in between check ins. The lockers for the lugage were in the dungeon-like basement, but all were occupied, so we had to sleep with all our lugage on top of ourselves in order to avoid a robbery. The Wi-fi did only functionate in the reception and the included breakfast was a couple of toast with some jam.
All in all not a place for a non-pothead, like myself, but for a backpacker who wants to experience Amsterdam I think this could be the place to stay! Cheap, nice location and an "unique" experience even though I wouldn't go there again.

I stayed in Aroza Hostel with a lad I was seeing in summer, at the beginning of our European Adventure of 2013 Inter-railing. Staying at Aroza in Amsterdam was a brilliant way to start our trip and I wouldn't have done it any differently. The staff were friendly and so were the usual guests that basically live there, talk to them, they know the ins and outs.. where is good to go. It's in the heart of Amsterdam and is perfect if you are two teenagers looking for an adventure. The rooms and sheets are fairly clean, they do get cleaned. Our bathroom was flooded by a fellow room mate, he pissed all over the floor, but got noticed by the staff and cleaned up. There is a sign saying do not bring food up rats are attracted, listen to this sign! We wern't 100% there was a rat underneath our bed due to our high level of paranoia because of the amount of weed smoked that day. But there was definitely something rustling in our bag of food under the bed and we assumed it was russle the rat haha I laugh now but at the time it was NOT FUNNY! The rooms have about 4 bunk beds each in them so if you are only travelling in a pair be ware that you will probably have strangers in your room that tend to be a bit weird. On our last night I didn't sleep because of the weird noises a man in the next bed was making, I was shxt scared (I'm not entirely sure what he was doing, but you get my drift) after a dramatic morning of arguing we were on our way to do truffles in the park and then to get a coach to Paris; it ended up being the best day ever. so you cannot complain, the good comes with the bad. If you're on a trip like we were and are going to take everything on as an experience then Aroza is the perfect cotch for you. The lockers are man made but are perfectly safe.. Just bring a padlock! Watch out for everyone who sells food, they WILL try make you buy more when you're stoned. We repeatedly had the giggles thinking "oh fxck, we're gonna spend all our money in Amsterdam" when it was only the beginning. I'm a wifi queen and the wifi only works downstairs but its free. can only smoke weed in the green house thing in the slight games room, which isnt a bad thing! It's socialable. We met some interesting people. Get bikes, Red Light District, Cheeky monkey dnb mondays etc its hard not to have an amazing time! Enjoy xx

This hostel was everything we needed and more when I went to Amsterdam last june with my friends. I stayed in an 8 bed girls only room with 1 of my friends and it has a lovely little sun trap terrace out the window where we could smoke. Downstairs was a small smoking area (6 or so people), a large foyer area with a reception selling drinks and snacks, and a pool table room. For the price this place was great and in a really great location on a lovely street filled with bakery's, cares, coffee shops and souvenir stores, and only a couple minutes walk from the station. The best thing about this place was that we hardly saw any other guests and it was almost like we were the only people staying there.

Room Tip: The girls only one on the first floor had the little terrace

his is my honest opion of the place.
location: central to everything, 6 min walk to Amsterdam central train station
customer service: some what helpful
cleanness: need clean more
bathrooms: not clean often as well as bathroom and toilet is private, in own dorm of 6
extras: 1 computers to use, but you need to pay for it, as well as WIFI is slow . No Kitchen, only one small fridge. Breakfast is at basic
Noisy: quite, as everyone is stoned
Breakout area: ground floor,
Suggestions: No air condition as the room was hot here in summer. Get a faster computer.

Room Tip: Reading others reviews, I believe this an improvment.
