“Perfect all round!”

My boyfriend and I stayed for 3 nights in September and we're already desperate to go back.

The house is exactly as you see in the pictures, located in a beautiful nature reserve. You have the sea on one side of the property and a gorgeous lake on the other - we sat out by the lake every evening, wonderfully peaceful. The apartment within the house is on multiple floors, very well decorated and clean with all the mod cons we needed, plus a big dvd collection and even a piano!

It takes about 25 mins to walk to the nearest bus stop, and then about half an hour to the centre of Amsterdam. We mostly used Uber cabs though. We borrowed bikes from Marijke and cycled a couple of kilometres along a spit to a nearby island - dedicated cycle paths separate from the roads make the cycling very safe and it was a great way to explore the countryside.

Marijke and her husband were so welcoming and friendly. They left fresh eggs for breakfast for us every morning, recommended great things to do and told us a lot about the area. Actually, everyone in the area was really friendly and most people spoke good English so it was easy to get around and do things.

All in all, we had an amazing time and the Lake House was the perfect setting. We recommend it to anyone who loves the countryside and is after a peaceful oasis just outside the city.

I can't say enough wonderful things about this place. To start with, the house and property is spacious and gorgeous. Marijke was great! We didn't check in until midnight, and she was still there to meet us and even provided us breakfast for in the morning. We received fresh eggs on occasion from their chickens, and she even assisted us with completing all our laundry we had brought. In addition to answering any questions and being available, she also arranged all our transportation needs. The house is also stocked with stuff to do such as videos, books, and other activities for when you need to unwind at night.

“We miss Uitdam already...”

We were a group of six looking for a place to spend some days in Amsterdam, when we stumbled over the Lake House in the close by Uitdam and instantly fell in love! Even while preparing our trip, the house's owner Marijke was always there to answer questions and experienced enough to give tips for planning.

Then the day finally came and we arrived. From the first moment on, we were overwhelmed by Uitdam's relaxing atmosphere, beautiful scenery and the inhabitant's friendliness.

The apartment was just perfect for the group, behind the house we could sit on the dyke or swim in the clear water of the Ijsselmeer, in the front we used the boat and sat every evening watching the sunset while barbecuing.
Though Marijke was always around the corner guiding or giving tips about what to see in the next bigger places like Marken or Volendam, she just let us go and come as we please, never giving us a feeling of sharing the house, more like being befriended neighbors - perfect!

In the end, we only spent one day in Amsterdam and it is worth a trip, but it definitely can't keep up with the view and feeling that Uitdam, its people and nature, and especially the Lake House provide.

We will be back for sure!

“I want to go back!”

We spent a week at the guest house this past August and had the most wonderful and memorable week of our lives. From the start Marjike promptly answered any questions we had so we felt comfortable with our choice. The locations is ideal. Genuinely only 20 minutes outside of Amsterdam. For us it was ideal due to its location near several small beautiful villages which is much more our preference. Our first full day we used the bikes at the house to bike to Marken and easy and beautiful ride to the most charming village I have visited in my life. Other lovely day trips only a short car ride away included Monnikendam, Broek in Waterland, where we had the best food at De Witte Swaen after visiting the farmers market and a stroll around the village, Volendam, Edam, and more. We were traveling with our young daughter and on one particularly rainy day we found a wonderful indoor water park in Volendam. On sunny days I gather the outside portion of the water park is much larger and fun the but the small indoor part was just right for a young child.
The house was truly lovely. The large open layout of the kitchen and living room was relaxing. The only addition I would suggest would be a toaster or toaster oven in the kitchen since there is no oven in the unit. The upstairs bedroom was particularly charming with a view to the water on both sides of the house. The house is stocked with so many amenities for adults and children. There are about 100 DVD to watch, a docking station for IPad/Pod, cable, easy access to wifi but for our daughter the standouts were the piano, the puppet theater and legos! The rain shower was very nice as was there being two bathrooms. Another bonus was the loft bed where our daughter tucked herself away with books and dolls and enjoyed her own private space in the midst of the large open home.
We really took advantage of all the house had to offer. We spent many evenings either on the knoll on the dyke or having dinner at the table on the lake side. We even took the boat out for a row.
One small gem we visited on our last day and wish we had visited earlier was the small cafe in a women's garden two doors down from the Lake House. The menu is small but perfect for a light lunch or coffee and cake. We enjoyed sitting under the umbrella and playing cards in the small little oasis.
Our last day at the Lake House was the best. It was a very warm day and spent all of it relaxing on the grass, swimming in the brisk water on the dyke side and having a BBQ on the grill on the lake side at the end of the day. I was sad for the day to end knowing we would depart in the morning. I would jump at the opportunity to go back. Thank you to the Lake House family for allowing us to stay in your lovely home.

“Highlight of Our Trip!”

Absolutely gorgeous lake house that really served as a great relaxing break in between driving through cities in Western Europe.

The property was absolutely breathtaking as it was bracketed by a small inland pond on one side and a large lake on the other. This area is quite rural and many small farms are located on the drive in and out which made for a relaxing drive in and out. Despite being a decent distance from downtown Amsterdam, Marijke was very helpful in assisting us with a place to find cheap parking (I think it was only 1 euro?) next to a train that took us into the city on a short ride.

I also loved taking a refreshing swim in the lake (though the cold water might not be for everyone), eating cheese and wine at picnic table over the inland lake, and cooking fresh eggs in the morning delivered by our hosts. The room was stocked with pretty much everything one needs to cook meals, though if I were to make one suggestion, it would be that the kitchen counter/stove top/refrigerator area might be expanded a bit to make it easier to cook and store food.

The hosts were absolutely wonderful, as they made every accommodation for us and even gave our little one a children's book that the owners themselves wrote and published (very cute!). My only regret was that we couldn't stay longer. I hope to stay again soon!

“LAKE HOUSE GETAWAY”
Reviewed 19 May 2014 for a stay in May 2014

We loved the Lake House. Our family of 6 stayed there for two nights and we fell instantly with the home, the “inn-keepers”, and the surroundings. If you are looking for a place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city of Amsterdam this is the place to stay. The two lakes were enchanting. The owners were very friendly. We definitely recommend staying here and we will be back.
