“Bloemgracht Houseboat”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 May 2010

We stayed on the Bloemgracht Houseboat for 2 weeks over Queensday. It is clean & light on the inside despite the rather gloomy exterior. It has a full kitchen with coffee maker, lots of dishes & pans, dishwasher, stove & big fridge (no microwave) & washer/dryer. The furnishings are basic, but clean & the TV got 25 channels. The bed was comfortable & raised, requiring a small step stool. The toilet & bathtub are also raised (above water line) so the step stool came in real handy & there was plenty of hot water. The sleeper sofa in living room would sleep 2 people but was not very comfortable to sit on. We enjoyed sitting at the kitchen table watching the world go by. Location of houseboat is great, right off the Prinsengracht so close to Stop & Go or tramstop at Westerkerk. I do miss the church bells. The pictures on the website are very accurate. Once again, I would highly recommend renting through Frederics.

My girlfriend and I stayed at this houseboat which we got through Fredric rent-a-bike. Who also rents out 3 very cozy and charming rooms in his own house. Because his place was fully booked we opted to stay at this amazing houseboat on the Brouwersgracht canal about a 15 minute walk from central station (with suitcase).
We paid 130 euro/night (booking fee inc.) The place was amazing, much better than any Hotel you could get for the price... actually scratch that, better than any hotel at all. Included is a two person bath/jacuzzi, full kitchen, large comfortable bed, TV/VCR (with all the seasons of Friends you can watch) and a view of life right on the canals of Amsterdam. I was so blown away by staying here, I will now tell everyone who goes to Amsterdam to stay here. Its just the best thing ever!!! It really gave us the feeling of how it might be to live in Amsterdam.
The area around the boat is quiet enough, but its a 5 minute walk to the beginning of the '9 Blocks'
You can also just sit on the side of the boat and watch other boats pass by while drinking a nice cold beer that you got out of your huge fridge.
I highly recommend rent a bike from Fredric as well, the price is supposed to be 10 euro a day (insurance included) but they gave them to us for 8 cause we were staying there.
All in all the best part of my week long trip to Amsterdam was staying in a houseboat so I recommend you all give it a try.
PS Fredric has also got this amazing room with waterbed and jet bath for 100euro/night

This was a lovely place!

Apartment: It is perfect for a group of four to five people. There is one double bed in the back room and then two single beds in the main room. (When you walk in, the kitchen is slightly in front of you, and then main room/room with the single beds/sitting room are to the right.) The kitchen has dishes and silverware, a washer and dryer and a fridge (maybe more, although we didn't really use the kitchen.) One important thing to know is that in order to get to the bedroom, you have to go through the bathroom. So, you are in that bedroom, and someone decides to use the bathroom, you are stuck. Also, Frederic is super friendly, as is the other person who works with him. They will take their time to show you places of interest and to even draw them on the map!

Price: If you are not going in a group, you could probably find a cheaper place. (Price per night 160 + 15%; Total for the two nights is 368 euros)

Location: Great! The Jordaan district is unbelievably charming (there was an organic market right outside the apartment! - However, it is a little hard to find. The door is litterally right behind a cafe's seating area.) We spent much of our first day there just wandering around in the back streets. There are numerous pubs and restaurants in this area, although most of them serve Italian food - and the food was great, but it wasn't Dutch. The city is fairly small and it's easy to walk from district to district.

Anne Frank: It's small, but I still think worth the wait. Also, while the line outside tends to look fairly daunting, it actually moved fairly quickly. Our line wrapped fairly far around the building, but it still only took about 30 minutes before we were inside.

Rijksmuseum: There was also a wait for this, but again, it's worth it. Although, one thing to keep in mind right now is that most of the museum is under construction so the exhibit is limited.

It is not a bed and breakfast, rather an unsual guesthouse.

Let's speak about the room we had, a huge room with a big jacuzzi and waterbed. I admit that it was very comfortable. I just regret the uncertain cleanliness of the sheets, as well as the dirty withe cat.

They proposed us croissants - just croissants - for breakfast.

That's all, nothing to say about this guesthouse that i found a little too expensive ... as well as we had to pay in cash, once again ( 270 euros for 3 nights ).
