Having done several excellent walking tours in London, we were delighted to find this one in Amsterdam. We enjoy learning about the history and places of interest, and find it an excellent way of getting acquainted with our surroundings.
Other companies seemed to offer walking tours that concentrate solely on the Red Light District. We chose Zoom Amsterdam because the tour included other areas of interest as well.
Our tour guide, Dio, was extremely knowledgeable about the city, and was very friendly and entertaining. The tour was conducted in English, which he spoke fluently.
We started off in the ‘Tower of Tears’ – just opposite central station. There were ten people in all in our group, which was a nice number. It started at 5pm with a 20 minute talk about Amsterdam, during which we were also offered a free drink from the bar - a very nice, unexpected, touch.
We then started on our walking tour, which went down the canalside, towards the small Chinatown area, through the red light area and finally finished at Dam Square. In all, the tour took between 2.5 and 3 hours.
The cost was just 15 Euros each, and we had a great time. We learned a lot, and saw some very interesting (and eye opening) sights. We highly recommend this walking tour to all - especially if all their guides are as informative as Dio.
