Chez George was recommended by our hotel in Amsterdam. Small and cosy, it has a great atmosphere. We felt we had great personal service and the food .......marvellous! We all thoroughly enjoyed every course. There was one small miscommunication resulting in one of our party getting the wrong dish. The correct dish appeared within a couple of minutes with profuse apologies and an offer of free desserts! You can't say fairer than that!

In Amsterdam, I've learned over time that restaurants can be hit or miss when it comes to food quality, menu choice, a good wine list and backed by good service by a staff who knows what they are all about. I found Chez George entirely by accident and a happy accident it turned out to be. Chez George is a Belgian restaurant. Not to besmirch the Dutch, but clearly the Belgians have a deeper passion for food and wine. The French Week menu consisted of top quality ingredients and tasty dishes. All of the dishes offered a balance of flavors, and food combinations paired with beautiful sauces. I found the price value to be very much in my favor. Usually these set menu events often uninspired food that all does not stand out. Chez Georges clearly is standing above that trend. They also had an impressive wine list. I use the word impressive because not only did they have a wide variety of choices but the price markup was very reasonable. So few restaurants get that. Too many get a 5 euro bottle from Gall and Gall and try to pass it off for 30 euros. Again CG breaks that bad habit by offering very good, well thought out wines at good prices. They even had 1/2 bottles. To top it all off, the service was exceptional. The small staff knows their stuff, are passionate about what they do and they understand how serve wine properly (and in the proper glasses). I would definitely go back here again.

This is an utterly charming little restaurant in the Jordaan area of Amsterdam, with such an intimate feel, it is akin to the current trend of secret dinner clubs where you are served dinner in someone’s home. The restaurant holds fewer than 10 tables on 3 levels, and is rustic in its décor. While the staff were Belgian, all spoke adequate English, and their opener was: “Here is our menu, but we recommend you ignore that!”

It’s the type of place where they like to serve what the chef is in the mood to cook that evening. We were offered off-the-cuff set menus, and when they were described, we all chose an option (fish/seafood-based or meat based options for each). We received a delicious shrimp bisque amuse bouche prior to the courses themselves, which were all exceptional. The style is traditional French, and the courses themselves were rightly portioned for the richness of the dishes.

There is no “turning tables” here. No one is in a hurry and the meal will last the evening. Our group had a wonderful evening at Chez Georges and I highly recommend it for your next special occasion in Amsterdam.

I've been there with 2 of my friends after booking the dinner quite some time in advance. The place is very small, with some table son the 1st floor too. The setting is vintage looking which makes the place extremely elegant. It is in a highly touristic part of Jordaan, but has nothing to do with a touristic place as mostly only Dutch people go there (or those who know about it). We chose the set 3 course menu. They offer a starter from the house, fish soup in our case. I went for the fish platter starter which was absolutely delicious. For main course i had the fish fille with veggies and a very good rich sauce. The dessert is very refreshing and definitely a nice end to the dinner. The portions are very big, so think twice before going for a 4 or 5 course. It is on the expensive side indeed, but it is good value for money in Amsterdam and decently priced for such a meal.
Also, good service for Amsterdam. It is a posh place, and sometimes Dutch people seem to get the concept of "service" right.

This was our splurge dinner in Amsterdam. In addition to the à la carte menu, they offer 3 prix fixe menus. We asked if they could combine items from two of the menus, and the host very happily created a unique four-course meal ("and for dessert, a surprise.") wonderful food and great wine pairings made this meal the highlight of our visit.
