If you need a place to dine near the centre of Amsterdam: choose restaurant Zuid Zeeland!
The food is outstanding! BIG compliments to the chef!
The restaurant is in walking distance from the central station and the Dam.
As we arrived we requested a good pace of serving the dishes, because we were a little tired. This was no problem, and we instantly got bread with mustard-mayonnaise and cashew nuts. The butter that accompanied the bread was at room temperature and therefore spreadable.
The drinks and water were served quickly after ordered.
We treated ourselves with a 5-course surprise menu: recommended!
As appetisers we got an fresh oyster (messmate got roast beef with tomato tapenade.
The entree was salmon with beetroot sauce, beetrote cubessalat, beetroot parts: a surprisingly good combination! My messmate got croquettes with veal ragout on a mushroom flan. The croquettes were delicious, but the flan was tasted faintly.
Then we were served a soup of pumpkin with a touch of cumin: the best cream soup I ever had! Perfectly balanced taste and the cumin was delicately supporting the pumpkin.
Our main course was Guinea fowl with jus of laurel: the sauce was lovely, so I immediately asked for more!
We got a dessert amuse: homemade coconut macarone and a vacuum cooked cube of pineapple (this tastes like it’s marinated). Delicious again!
As dessert we received almond-mandarins-financier (it’s like cake) with mandarin icecream and parts of mandarin.
We skipped the course of crème brûlée of goat cheese, as we both don’t like goat cheese, but never expected this, so we did not tell them.
The tea we were served was very good of taste as it were tealeaves in a bag. They excused for not having friandises anymore; this was the only remark we had.
We were able to head back to our hotel a little over two hours: compliments again for the pace!
As a summary: service is good, kitchen is heaven! We definitely will come back!
