This is the first time I have ever complained about accommodation that I have booked.
My wife telephoned me shortly after her arrival at Jeffrey's houseboat in tears.
I am normally a “ make the best of it “ type but Jeffrey's houseboat is so far removed from the description on your site and its glowing reviews that I feel compelled to give you a sufficiently detailed complaint to persuade you to remove it from your site at least until extensive upgrading work is carried out.
My wife and four ladies aged between 65 and 70 were looking forward to a relaxing break in Amsterdam to celebrate a seventieth birthday. Jeffrey's Houseboat was far from relaxing.
Firstly, as nearly all reviewers have said, the location is excellent. The promised facilities are extensive and very good BUT there are so many problems that Jeffrey's houseboat is completely unacceptable.
Communication was non - existent until the day before travel. The key is held in a key safe protected by the code 0000
The first impression was not favourable. The inside of the boat is shabby, stained and dirty. The two sofas and the rugs are grubby and have large stains. Towels were placed on the sofas before the ladies would sit on them! See pics
The inside of the bin lid (whose handle was broken) was stained and had mould growing on it.
The oven tray had crumbs in it as had the biscuit tin.
The unreachable patio had an unemptied ashtray as did the glass table.
The glass side table was smeared and had dirt trapped between the stainless steel frame and the glass.
The dining room table was smeared sticky dirty as was the joke “welcome” tray
Sweet papers under the bed
bedside chest drawer was stained and sticky
bedroom floor sticky
One of the main reasons that the ladies chose the houseboat over hotel accommodation was the promise of an outside dining area with outdoor furniture a terrace a sun terrace and a patio. Imagine their disappointment when they found the access door padlocked, with a scrawled felt tip pen notice saying that it was not to be opened until police gave permission. See pic
Aside from the 0000 code and the padlocked fire door. The kitchen window lock was broken. A crude attempt at securing it involved screwing a piece of wood across the window. The back door had clearly been forced previously and left unrepaired. Completely unacceptable. The threat of police featured highly in the notices around the boat. Far from welcoming.
Aside from the security issues above, bare wires were visible from light fittings and there were taped up sockets none of which inspired electrical confidence and all of which were potential fire hazards. See pic
It is abundantly clear that Jeffrey's houseboat is not as described . Don't book this boat until you are assured that it has had extensive upgrading.

Advertised as having freezer and washing machine but it had neither. Quiet location with easy access to attractions and 2 min walk from the no 4 tram stop.
Unfortunately we never got to stay on the houseboat as the owner contacted me just two weeks before our stay to say that there was a problem with the boat (he never stated what the problem was) and offered an alternative boat which we quickly saw from the details/address was smaller and in a less salubrious part of the city. TripAdvisor did an excellent job of cancelling the booking on our behalf and ensuring we quickly got our money refunded. However, I would be wary about booking with this owner as he clearly owns another boat and you may not get the one on offer here.
