“Fabulous apartment in a perfect location”
Reviewed 8 January 2017 for a stay in December 2016

We just returned from spending nine fantastic nights in Amsterdam at Canal View. It is a well appointed, very comfortable apartment in a perfect location within the Western Canal Ring. The view of the canal is absolutely perfect. It is close to many great sights, shopping, and restaurants. It's a very quiet apartment, and a very comfortable sleep. And, not too far away is some of the best coffee we've ever had at "Screaming Beans." Maarten is a friendly host and answered any questions we had about the apartment and Amsterdam. If you want to experience life as a local, this is definitely a great place to stay. We highly recommend this apartment.

“Lovely spacious apartment overlooking beautiful canal in a great location.”
Reviewed 7 September 2016 for a stay in September 2016

We have just spent 7 days here on our first visit to Amsterdam. The apartment was great and in a really good location that allowed us to venture in all directions for sightseeing with most within walking distance. Would definitely recommend anyone visiting to stay here. Marten was very kind and everything we needed was here.

Since I booked this apartment through Trip Advisor, they should know that this an authentic review. Maarten's pictures on TA show how the apartment looks.
Throughout the booking and traveling period Maarten always responded immediately to emails and other requests for information.
The apartment is beautiful and the view out the apartment is the classic Amsterdam view: the beautiful canal and always interesting canal traffic. The apartment is well equipped and it has the most important appliance: The Coffee Maker! and filters and Coffee!

We'd love to stay here again.
Right across the canal at Brouwersgracht 60 is the restaurant De Belhamel our best meal in Amsterdam. Great!!
Not only are you on one of the most picturesque canals in Amsterdam, but you are also a one minute walk away from one of the best shopping/restaurant streets in town Haarlemerstraat and its continuation Haarlemmerdijk.
1 Ibericus Amsterdam
Haarlemmerstraat 93,
Spanish Hams
This is the holy grail for Spanish hams. They are all here and lined up on the counter in holders. One of the most impressive sites I've ever seen. They also serve sandwiches with the less expensive but still excellent hams.
2 Abinish Haarlemerstraat117 perfect light supper. Chicken satay or merguez sausage and a salad. Very nice staff. They are open until every day 12:00- 21:30
3 Vlaamsch Broodhuys Haarlemmerstraat 108. Great bread and cake bakery. Best high tea we ever had.
4 Petit Gateau Haarlemmerstraat 80
Great concept, pretty small tarts
Love the way the bakery looked and a great concept. Perfect single portion serving. We had a chocolate and a lemon, but found them a little bland
5 Bistro Neuf Haarlemstraat 9. Obviously a very good restaurant but...
Pretty room, nice staff, Perfect bouillabaisse, great creme brûlée and raspberry sorbet, but I ordered the Salade Niçoise with swordfish and it was a huge disappointment. Salad was underdressed and when I asked for more dressing they brought some but it was tasteless. I wondered why the swordfish was so bad. Was it cooked a few days earlier and just warmed up? It tasted like nothing, gross.
Farther along on Haarlemerstraat and its continuation Haarlemmerdijk.

Liked best: We were on what the Europeans call the first floor. Which afforded us a ring side seat of the beautiful canal and all the boat traffic.

“A wonderful place to stay.”

For our most recent stay in Amsterdam we chose the Canal View. It was an excellent decision.

As others have pointed out, the photographs on the website are completely accurate. What you see is what you get, and it is great.

Canal View is a 10 or so minute walk from Centraal Station, near enough to tramlines, and in an area with excellent restaurants.

It is on the first floor (second floor in the US) and, typical of Amsterdam, there are fairly steep stairs. The apartment is open, full of light and with plenty of storage space. There is a loose-leaf notebook that the owners prepared with information on the apartment, its equipment and the surrounding area in the dresser the TV is on.

The kitchen is fully equipped (there are two supermarkets a short walk away). The bed is queen size and comfortable.

The Wifi was very good and the TV has a wide selection of channels.

The apartment has a small washing machine but not a dryer. If you do not want to do your own laundry there is a very good, reasonably priced laundry service, the Washing Company, a few blocks on Haarlemmerdijk next to the Little Saigon restaurant.

Maarten, one of the owners, was very helpful and a pleasure. It is possible to leave your luggage if you arrive early if you prearrange it. As we were leaving (and before the apartment was cleaned) in the morning, the next residents were ringing Maarten’s buzzer in order to leave their luggage.

“Great apartment for exploring Amsterdam”
Reviewed 11 April 2016 for a stay in March 2016

The Canal view apartment is a light and airy first floor one bedroom apartment located in a seventeenth century house in the Amsterdam Canal District. It looks just like the photos on the web site so there are no surprises. We really liked the wonderful view of the canal from the windows.

The apartment is in a perfect location to walk to many of the major Amsterdam sights. There are shops and restaurants close by. The Centraal station is a 10 minute walk away, so it’s easy to reach from the airport.

The apartment is clean and well maintained in a secure building. Before we arrived the owner provided answers to all our questions and he provided a lot of very useful information in the apartment for the first time visitor. All minor issues were quickly and effectively dealt with.

“A wonderful calm space in the city”

We have stayed in hotels and hostels in Amsterdam previously but this was the first time we had our own apartment. It was easy to find, within 5-10 minutes walk from Centraal station. We arrived a couple of hours too early to check in, but Lisa was available to let us in so we could drop off our luggage straight away. We walked up to Haarlemmerstraat, just 1 minute away, and had a wonderful lunch at Abinish (try the chocolate tart, you won't regret it). When we returned to the apartment Lisa gave us a warm welcome and a very good tour of the facilities. Everything was clearly explained in the house information folder, which was one of the best I've seen, full of suggestions for places to visit. Maarten and Lisa had left us a bottle of wine and some cheese biscuits, which was very kind.
The apartment was furnished to a very high standard; modern, but with some vintage charm too. Fresh flowers made it homely, and the view of the canal and the houses opposite was fantastic. It was very cold when we visited (February) so we had one day where we stayed in and watched the snow fall outside the window. Heaven!
The kitchen was very well equipped and we found everything we needed. I was pleased that there were recycling bins and a compost bin. The bed was very comfortable, and the sleeping area was dark enough at night. There was plenty of storage space. There was an iron and ironing board; a small travel hairdryer was provided.
All areas were spotlessly clean. The shower pressure was good and the temperature was consistent. The room temperature was easy to control (once we'd mastered the electronic thermostat dial - tip: rotate the dial with your thumb from underneath, with slight upward pressure if needed to help it engage).
The location of the apartment couldn't be bettered. There were two decent sized supermarkets very near by, and plenty of smaller shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. Amsterdam is a city for walking or cycling, and being right by the canal made navigation very easy, but there were also tram and bus stops nearby for longer distances. The proximity of the railway station was great for days out. Of the places recommended by Maarten and Lisa, we tried Kanjil & de Tijger for Indonesian food (amazing) and Winkel 43 for a quick supper (great food and service).
All in all we had a fantastic week at Canal View Apartment and would highly recommend it to anyone. Thanks for everything Maarten and Lisa!

Liked best: The location and the feel of the apartment - cosy and calm
Liked least: Medicine cabinet over sink is a little too big; it was a bit tricky to use the sink without hitting your head. A trivial issue.
