The trams are very convenient. You cannot get lost on them. If you are not sure where to go, ask the conductor as they are all very friendly and helpful. Most of them start at Centraal Station and finish there so it is hard to get lost while riding them. Buy a transit card for easy access.

I come from Israel and I was amazed with efficiency, correct timing and friendly ways to travel inside Amsterdam. Its been very comfortable to travel via bus, tram, train or metro 24/7. I even travel from and to the airport via the train and bus.
You better buy rechargeable ticket in the central station and make sure to come with credit card and pin code because you cant pay with cash.
There are screens in every tram or bus that tells u when you will arrive and what the next stations are. I did it with google maps. Was really easy.

Well, good trams, what else can I say? If you don't have a rechargeable GVB card, then the tickets will cost you 3 EUR per person. It is possible to purchase the ticket inside the tram with a credit card, but keep in mind that they don't accept cash payments.

Our hotel sold us 24 hour tickets valid on trams, buses and underground metro and gave us a transport map. We found the system clearly marked and easy to use - the only minor point to remember is to activate the ticket not only when you get , but also when you get off. T o save an expensive taxi fare on our departure the hotel sold us a one hour's validity ticket.

If you're in Amsterdam, you should be prepared to walk. It's a very pedestrian friendly city. However, the weather will sometimes plan against you and it might be necessary to use GVB, which I highly recommend. Trams were easy to board, the schedule was easy to understand, and were mostly on time. We were able to purchase passes from the front desk of our hotel at a discounted rate, so check in there as well!
