“Modern, clean and friendly.”

Great location, Great beds (i really liked them but i had just travelled 24 hours), Helpful young staff with a can do attitude. Loft rooms are spacious but no lift access to top floor, walk the last flight. Small lift & bathrooms. Great location to explore. Caught tram 25 & 4 from out front to Central Station and all in between or just start walking. The street market a few blocks behind hotel is good. It's modern, clean and friendly. No mini bar or tea/coffee facilities in room but nice sitting downstairs and people watching. The hotel map very good highlights all the necessary streets, parks & attractions.

Pro: arty and modern feel, good breakfast , nice reception area
Con: Our room was located in the adjacent building and as this was previously a bookshop, we had to go up extremely steep staircase. A bit dangerous actually . The sheets looked ok but not spotless... I think this is because they were a dark colour which I didn't feel too comfortable about

This was our first trip abroad together without our 1 year old baby (and a b-day pressie from me to my boyfriend). I had done a lot of hotel research and found this hotel to be good value for money. Which overall it was. But the beds were tiny (maybe because the rooms were small) and the matresses poor, so we hardly got any sleep which was one of the purposes of being away from our child... We got another room, but with the same bed problems. If it hadn't been for the poor beds, I would have ranked this hotel very high as it was very cool and the breakfast really good. Also, it was situated in a quiet location.

We stayed here a couple of nights and the hotel was what I expected - very trendy, nice rooms and good location. There was a tram station right outside the hotel that took us back and forth to the train central station. Otherwise we walked from the hotel around the city.

They give you a city map upon arrival that is very good, points out different places worth seeing.

The room was fairly small but clean and very nice. Also the bed was good.
Unfortunately though, we had a room on the street side on the first floor and I couldn't really sleep due to the traffic sounds outside.

Also, we could hear every step from the above room where we were unfortunate to have neighbors that was walking back and forth on their heels very late for hours, don't understand why.
Not the hotels fault of course, but just making a point that a light sleeper might have problems.
My husband however, slept just fine - he agreed we could hear everything a little too well, but if one can sleep in spite of different sounds around, then it is no problem. Overall, a nice hotel - I would stay again, but I would ask for a room on the top floor and on not on the street side :)

Room Tip: Rooms somewhat noisy on the street side.

We stayed at the Hotel V in April 2011. We were a group of 8 including 2 teenagers and 2 children. The hotel is absolutely beautiful and very, very trendy, from the ecclectic decor to the beautiful fire place that takes centre stage in the reception, lounge area. The staff are a wonderful group of people who obviously love what they do and it shows. Breakfast was fabulous including freshly baked rolls, croissants and chocolate danish. A variety of cereals, fabulous coffee, an array of fresh cheeses, cold meats, preserves and spreads are all lavishly offered and replenished often. Tea, coffee and hot chocolate is available at no cost at all times of the day and night. Whilst the hotel does not appear to lend itself to children, the staff went out of their way to accommodate our kids and meet their numerous requests for hot chocolate and the caramel waffle biscuits.
The rooms vary in size and fortunately the rooms that accommodated the children was large enough. The rooms all have TV and satellite channels.
Jan one of the managers and owners was a delight to interact with and he has a wealth of knowledge about South Africa. He provided great advice on what to see and where to get the best deals ( especially important given the ZAR/Euro exchange rate and the fact that Amsterdam has to be the most expensive city in the world)
Julian, Dennis, Sanen went out of their way to accommodate us, Thank you very much for your effort.
On the morning of our checkout we asked if we could have an earlier breakfast ( 06:45 instead of the usual 07:00) and the fine gentleman from Surinam ( I am sorry I forgot his name) obliged by providing the full breakfast half an hour earlier... now that is Service....
Thank you for a fabulous stay... it was certainly an experience worth writing about and recommending to others.

I travelled with my 21 year old daughter who liked the quirkiness of the decor. Our room was good though a little more storage space would have been helpful(eg bedside tables with drawers) We had a safe which was excellent and the beds were very comfortable. Breakfast was very good and plentiful and free hot drinks at any time was a great bonus. The staff were delightful and gave us some great recommendations for restaurants. Over all staying at Hotel V was very good and we would go again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back!

Super tiny rooms, but this hotel has such great charm. The staff is incredibly friendly and the overall feel of the hotel is warm and welcoming. The trams are right across the street from the hotel, making it easy to get around the city if you dont want to walk. Two streets down is Oliveto, a must stop for any foodie!
