I didn't particularly like all the furniture and vases, but the paintings make the museum well worth a visit. Don't forget to walk the few streets with their cobble stones surrounding the museum!

We spent a good couple of hours wondering the beautiful rooms of the Frans Hals museum marvelling at the paintings, clocks and furniture. They have a superb collection of modern vases that they use to show off flora and fawna of Holland. The entrance is €12.50 but worth every cent as you look at some of the works that have been restored over the years. There is very good audio visual information and a good gift and coffee shop. Time well spent

A sobering trip. Should be a required visit for all. Great to think Anne's work still being read although her time here was cut short so cruelly.

From the entrance you might think that it is such a small museum with an expensive entrance fee. I'm glad though to have read the reviews in Tripadvisor that it really is worth a visit in Haarlem. Don't skip the intro video just before you enter the main museum. It will give you a good understanding of the artist, Frans Hals. This is good specially if you have children in tow and won't be able to listen and give full attention to the free audio guide the whole time you are exploring the galleries. I am not an expert in art but I did appreciate the ones they have in the museum. The architecture of the building itself is also gorgeous. Don't skip the courtyard! Navigating is quite easy even with a bulky stroller. After the visit, we were happy to sit in their cafe and get some warm food.

If you are driving, parking can get tricky. We've been to Haarlem in that same area twice and mostly it will be the costly street parking, space is hard to find and more expensive than Q parking!

The art gallery celebrates Frans Hals and other Haarlem painters. The rooms and furnishings are very fine. My advice is to work your way round but avoid the rooms with the Group portraits of various fraternities and one or two portra its until the end. You will then see two wonderful Hals portrsaits, Laughing Boy and a Bar Maid (on loan from a USA collector) before you see the group portraits. That way you end on a high and very well worth seeing.
