“Nice art”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 May 2014

Frans Hals art was amazing. The details on the paintings were simply magnificent! They also had many other artists paintings on display which were incredible as well. I recommend this museum. The only thing I didn't like was the out of the way location.

“Under-rated gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 May 2014

Haarlem, and Frans Hals are overshadowed by Amsterdam and Rembrandt. Although there are Hals portraits at the Rijksmuseum, the Hals museum displays not only Hals portraits, but also has a great collection of the Haarlem "Dutch Masters", including landscapes by Van Ruisdale. The former almshouse and orphanage also has 17th and 18th century furniture, porcelain ("Delft"), glass, silver and (working!) clocks. An audiotour is included with admission. MUCH less crowded than the Rijksmuseum, and an easy 20 minute train ride from Centraal Station, about 6 Euro round trip.

“Oh Those Beautiful Flower Arrangements!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 May 2014

Since I am such a flower lover, I was as impressed with the live flower arrangements in unusual container as I was with the paintings. The courtyard is also amazing. Enjoy!

“Choice collection”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 May 2014

The visit began with a video presentation of Frans Hals' life and painting followed by a self-guided tour of his art and other Dutch Masters. A highlight was a painting that illustrated by Bruegel the Younger of 81 Dutch proverbs. Using a touch screen you could read what proverb each section represented. It was very amusing! Also liked the huge dollhouse.
