Owner description: Anyone who opens the museum's heavy door on the bank of the River Spaarne sees at a glance what it is that inspires such enthusiasm. The museum breathes the atmosphere of the 18th and 19th centuries - the Age of the Enlightenment - when people were busily gathering knowledge about the world. Teylers Museum is a world in itself, one that you will never forget. Teylers Museum is the best-preserved 18th-century public knowledge institution for the arts and sciences in the world. It has been open to the public since 1784, welcoming all those who are eager to look at paintings and drawings by the Old Masters, magnificent minerals, ingenious scientific instruments, precious books, and centuries-old fossils. The museum's interior alone, with the monumental Oval Room as pièce de resistance, is a truly remarkable attraction. It is the only authentic 18th-century museum interior in the world.

the lovely 18th century building is preserved and the modern garden, exhibition hall and shop are designed in wood and the clear lines both match and contrast to the ornate older exhibition rooms.
As dutch museums can be around the 10-15euro entrance fee mark it could be a good idea to splash out on a "MUSEUM-JAARKAART" if planning to see more than 4 museums in your trip.

There are so many interesting things to see at this museum, including the building itself. It has beautiful spaces within the building, small personable rooms with natural lighting. They house an interesting and eclectic collection of scientific instruments, fossils, and art work. Their collection of Rembrandt etchings are amazing. If you make the trip out to Haarlem, we highly recommend a stop at this museum.

We went there especially to see their temporary exhibition of Rembrandts etchings. It was really good. Teylors owns a great deal of Rembrandts art work and it was really good to see his etchings as I had never heard about them before. The museum is in a beautiful building and the gift shop is really nice!

The permanent collection consists of a collection of antique scientific instruments. Although I'm a scientists I didn't find these very interesting. The temporary exhibition space changes frequently, but the couple of the exhibitions I've seen have been equally uninteresting.
