This restaurant was convenient to our B&B but it had very good food and prompt service. We ate there several times and were not disappointed.

I have been here 4-5 times, if not more. You can't make a reservation, as it's always full. But that's of course for a reason: you get VERY cheap but tasty food, great value for money. Atmosphere is amazing, 90% locals. Nice to experience for tourists, very 'Dutch' atmosphere.

We have been here four times, twice just for a drink, and twice for food. Love this place. The employees are very welcoming and accepting of our inability to speak Dutch :( The service is fantastic, the food so reasonably priced.....almost shocking!!! It also is quite good. We have every intention of becoming regulars because we can eat cheaper than cooking at home (if we have the daily special anyway ....just six euros) Actually, the review forom Remco explains it all....I just felt they deserved another great write-up!

My family and I live in Haarlem. That means that we are always keen to find real nice places where you can eat very well and at the same time is very affordable. Bruxelles is one of those restaurants. This review is based on 6 visits over the past 12 months. Actually it's name is Cafe Bruxelles and the interior is the typically Dutch "brown cafe" style. Upstairs is the place to be for dining. This Cafe offers a combination of Art (changing exhibitions), pleasant service, good inexpensive food and a beer menu (yes a lot of Belgium beers!) as a concept.

Because if the low prices you can easily afford starters, they are all good except for the snails (escargots), they are tasteless. But the rest is excellent including the salads.

My daughter and I often go for the Cheese fondue for 2 persons, really tasty and according to me; way better then average of what you can find in the Netherlands. Made from two types of cheese. But I also love the sate without sticks. Always try to order the fries because this Cafe is somewhat famous for it (they are home made), of course served with mayonnaise because, as you know, the Dutch drown there fries in this sauce.

Time for dessert. Apart from the Creme Brulee it really helps if you like ice cream! Actually it is almost a make-your-own concept, choose your favourite taste, then the amount and top it of with whipped cream and/or chocolate sauce if you like.

If you have survived all of the above the damage is around 20 Euro. And with a glass of wine and a coffee 25 Euro. And trust me that is a bargain for Haarlem. If you are on a tight budget you can choose the "dish of the day" for Euro 6. Always a hit and every day different. Ideal restaurant for families, the waitresses are very pleasant and vegetarians are spoiled for choice.

Maybe this restaurant is difficult to find for those of you who visit Haarlem, so make sure you have the directions at hand. Reservations needed for three or more people. Enjoy!!

Try the sweet cherry beer. Goes great with the spare ribs! Meal was very good and large portions.
