The lodge was very nice, just outside the bus 70, owner was very friendly and helpful, and gave us recommendations on which places to visit. The house has a fully equipped kitchen very useful for families to cook. The old town at north of Giethoorn was quiet and nice, we really enjoyed our stay.
The Giethoorn Lodge is very comfortable and has absolutely everything you could need for few nights stay, or longer!
The Lodge is its own building next to Bert and Marie's house with a lovely outside sitting area right next to a canal.
The bus stop is only two doors down and only a few minutes drive to the shops and the tourist area of Giethoorn where you can get canal tours around the village to see the beautiful canals and canal houses.
There are also plenty of restaurants and cafes there to eat, there is even a 2 Michelin Star restaurant right across the road from the Lodge called De Lindenhof.
It was very clean and has absolutely everything you could need. We traveled with our 1.5yo and the house was very suitable for a child.
We hope to be back again one day.
Ok, so this is a little late...I meant to do it a long time ago. I can't imagine how to write this review to make it rise to the level of how we felt. We decided we wanted to see Giethoorn after reading a few descriptions of it. There were four of us taking a tulips themed (mid-April)cruise out of Amsterdam. We planned a quick few days at Giethoorn Lodge. Not really knowing anything about the area, we reached out to Bert and Marie a few times before our arrival....they were so helpful. By the time we got there I was already very comfortable with them.
Giethoorn was even cuter then all the things we had read or any of the photos we had seen. The house was exactly as described but had an even warmed feel then could have been relayed in words. The property is something out of a story book.
I would say that by the time we left, Bert and Marie were friends of ours.
If you are even close to that part of Europe we highly recommend experiencing it for yourself...you deserve it.
Burt and Marie made our few days in Giethoorn even more magical than it already was. The area is gorgeous with every view like a Vermeer painting. Burt and Marie greeted us when we arrived and made us feel totally at home. The rental house is lovely and comfortable with pretty much anything one needed for their stay, including a sauna! Burt was kind enough to take us on a magical boat trip through the canals in the evening and I'll remember it as one of the highlights of our trip. We also were introduced to a local artist, Bernadette, who we loved meeting, purchased some of her art and spent some time with. This area is really quite magical and worth the trek from Amsterdam to stay here for a few days. Thanks so much Burt and Marie!
The lodge was self sufficient
The location was quiet to relax
Sunrise, sunset, all you wish for
From canoes, cayaks, bicycles...
Bert and Marie went overboard to please all requests
Things to expect near water are mosquitoes
Hence come prepared especially for young ones
Would definitely revisit in future
Thank you Bert and Marie
Bert & Maria are lovely owners who helped make our stay so good.
The holiday home is clean, and has everything and more you could want from a holiday home, and is chocolate box beautiful as well, being thatched & with a small protected patio area.
The house is located close to the smaller old village, just 10 mins away in the day boat or canoe, the main village takes about 25 mins in the boat to get to.
Giethoorn is a UNESCO World Heritage Site for a very good reason, it is jaw dropping beautiful! With a small number of nice restaurants in the main village, close to the holiday home is The 'Lindenhoff' 2 Michelin starred restaurant.
We had a fantastically relaxed holiday at the end of May beginning of June, the weather was really warm, and there were not too many other tourists.
If you don't like a holiday at this holiday home and in this area I will eat my hat!
Many Thanks to Bert & Maria
