“Real nice houses”
Reviewed 18 September 2013

Lovely walk around the old walls area. The houses are well preserved and looked very cosy inside. I recommend doing the whole round, the buildings are worth it!

“An unique architectural experience.”
Reviewed 27 August 2013

The Wallhouses are an unique formation of houses in a circle around the center. During the last centuries these special houses were built from bricks that were taken from the (nowadays mostly demolished) inner city wall. Walking through this very interesting area, you will stumble upon a lot of beautiful and impressive examples of Wallhouses, like the Secretary’s House, the Thieves’ Tower (used as a prison), the small and large Tinnenburg and the Bollenburg (once the residence of the famous Johan Van Oldenbarnvelt). Really worth to check out and I recommend to do the city boat trip (45 minutes, only 4 euro), from the water you have a very nice look on many Wallhouses.

“Combine a walk with shopping and terrace”
Reviewed 30 July 2013

In the historical center of Amersfoort there are a kind of ring-shape streets with beautiful old houses, built in the middel of the IV century, on the spot of the old wall (because there was a 2nd wall the first was no longer needed). Thats why they are called 'wal-houses' (= muurhuizen). One street away from the restaurants and nice long shopping street. Also beautiful canals everywhere.

“a pleasing walk”
Reviewed 30 July 2013

a pleasant walk along the so-called 'Wall houses' brings you back in history (approx 300 years). These houses are built where the former town wall was, and have used the bricks of that wall (which was torn down to enable the town to grow beyond these boundaries)

Some of the houses have a rich individual history, but it's the collective impact of these well-kept, colorful and varied houses that pleases most. don't forget to look at the beautiful garden, all on the other (external) side.

“Beautiful quiet area”
Reviewed 27 July 2013

Historic, but lived in and a real part of the town. An evening stroll revealed lots of beautiful houses and picturesque canal views.
