“Wonderful dinner!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 July 2014

This was one of the best meals I have eaten in The Netherlands. I had the four course meal but opted for fish instead of the lamb, and the kitchen was happy to accommodate this off-menu change. Each course was EXCELLENT, and I would happily return to this restaurant anytime. I'm still dreaming about the lobster bisque, which was full of lobster claw meat and was not made in a cream-based sauce. My husband's only disappointment was the lamb, but because the other courses were so good we forgave it.

The service was very good, and the building itself is beautiful and provides a great ambiance without being stuffy. Dinner for three people (four courses each) including two bottles of wine came to E209, so about E70 per person.

We made reservations by phone, as the restaurant's website showed no tables as being available.

“Excellent!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 June 2014 via mobile

I was recently invited to dinner here in honor of a professor from the University of Delft. The service was not just friendly but very knowledgeable. Each course was excellent without exception. The restaurant is in an historic building which adds a charming atmosphere to a good meal.

“excellent food, service and wine”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 June 2014

We ate the surprise menu: it was a nice surprise. We took the wine arrangement: also good. On our request we could change one of the wines because i did not liket the one they advised; the alternative was excellent. Service is pleasant and friendly.

“A Joyful Surprise”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 May 2014

Based on a previous review, I drove from Leyden to Delft to have dinner in Van Der Dussen. It is located at the end of a quiet courtyard and parking is two blocks away. The original restaurant was two pieces with a glass atrium now spanning the sections. Sitting near the open kitchen is a wonderful experience. The head chef (Michelin One Star trained) was off that evening but it didn't matter. Most of the dishes were 'sous vide' and held deep taste and texture. I started with white Dutch asparagus three ways (thin peeled, vinaigrette and butter cooked) with the taste and texture of still life from the lowlands. The pork belly was served with conical cauliflower over a bed of slow cooked cabbage. The flesh was tender beneath a crust and the dish was the equal of the best I have had (Morimoto in Philadelphia). The Sea Bass cooked skin-side down, was crisped and full textured over a bed of creamed cauliflower. Service was excellent, attentive and engaged staff answered recipe questions. At $US 60 this was excellent; albeit slightly expensive.

“Not worth the wait ... but the food is good”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 April 2014

We, a party of 8 family and friends, arrived at our reservation time at 7 pm. We had heard that this was one of the best restaurants in Delft. We split into two tables to simplify the ordering. That didn't help. It took us 4 hours, 10 minutes to get served and pay the bill.

We should have known there would be problems when it took the waiter 45 minutes to take our drink order (water, wine, cocktails). It took 2 hours to get served the second course. We only saw 2 waiters and 1 helper during our time in the restaurant. And there were two large parties already at the restaurant when we arrived. One of our party did mention to the waiter that the food should have been served quicker between the courses.

The menu is a set price for 4 courses (or you can order from a special menu, which costs slightly less). There were a limited number of items to choose from, but that was OK. The food was good. Our experience does give us a good story to tell our friends back home.
