“Love the concept and the elegance of the food, great price/quality”

Although all the restaurants in Leiden seem to get more expensive, La Diva stays at a steady pace. The concept is simple: they have a 3-, 4- or 5-course menu at a set price with ingredients straight from the market, and if you like it can be accompanied by a wine- menu. We've been here several times, the new owners kept the concept and we are still very content every visit!

Best way to commence the meal is with an aperitif: cava with a typical Dutch liquor in it. Then you will be asked which foods you don't like, if you have food allergies etc. After that it's just 'sit back, relax and enjoy!'
The sodabread with salted butter alone is to die for! This hits the table after the appetizer. This time the appetizer consisted of very big marinated green olives, a small glass of gazpacho and smoked almonds.

We chose to have the 4-course menu with a 3-course wine-menu (starter, main, dessert)
The starter was seared tuna, followed by lightly oven-cooked salmon with a poached egg in puff pastry (still amazed how they pulled that of) and sauce hollandaise, the main was mind blowing: rutabaga, lentils with un top fillet steak with duckliver and slices of black truffle. The wine served with this dish (a Barbera d'asti) was a perfect fit! For dessert we had a small layer of pistachio cake, vanilla curd, wild apricot compote and a tuilla with citrus. Of course also accompanied by a nice dessert- wine. With every wine there comes a story, about the grape, about the terroir... don't hesitate to ask more information if you are interested.
The coffee with chocolate covered almonds took it home!

The chef works alone in a small kitchen (so you may have to wait a bit for the next course, but it's not annoying) and the maitre has some help serving. Both the maitre and chef are really nice and genuinely want to give you a pleasant, enjoyable evening
