“I like it!”
Reviewed 14 May 2014

No hotel can please every guest. For me, "Like" list of this hotel is longer than "Dislike".

Advantages:
Environment - Location (just next to Central Station).
Room & Facility - Handheld showerhead + Rainfall shower / Comfortable bed & pillows.

Disadvantages:
Room & Facility - Bath towels are bit small in size and not soft and puffy enough; in considering the hotel is only several months old, so I would say the towels' quality not one of the best / No kettle & coffee-maker in room / Room temperature being fixed at 21°C not adjustable or cannot be turned off.

Tips & Comments for other travelers:
Hotel environment - Hotel is integrated in a commercial complex. When you enter the building, you don't see a hotel lobby and there is none. Front desk is situated in a room at the building's lobby; like a shop.
Gym facility - Hotel guests do not entitle free access the whole day just before 10 am daily (I never use hotel gym so it does not border me).
No mini-bar in room - It does not border me also as I never consume anything from a hotel-room. There is a convenient store inside the Central Station just next to the Hotel and there is a large supermarket just acrossed the road other side of the Central Station. You will have many more choices economically there than a hotel mini-bar can offer.
Breakfast buffet - There are not many choices but fine for me. As breakfast is optional, it is up to our own choice whether it there or outside.
Dinner at Level 10 - If you imagine having dinner while enjoying nice city view, this would not be the scenario because dinning tables are not by the window side, it is the lounge area being set by the windows. Besides, Leiden is a small old city, looks flat from birdeyes' view and probably not much light at night. However, the food quality is quite good though the menu is short.

Conclusion:
If you are like me visiting Leiden for sightseeing, you would probably like this Hotel as I do.
If you are someone who likes staying in a hotel room, sitting in a couch with a shot from mini-bar in the room, or if you enjoy doing gym and swimming in a hotel rather than stretching your legs outside, then you may want to consider another hotel.
For me, If I revisit Leiden again, Hamsphire Leiden Fitland will be my first choice.
By the way, Hamsphire Leiden Fitland or Fitland Level Leiden, which is your official name?

Stayed here recently for work for two nights. The hotel is in a great location right next to the train station and the rooms are clean, modern and quiet. It is a bit odd that some elevators go to the hotel floors and some do not but it does not take long to figure your way around.
The sauna and pool are separate charges but they are quite nice and worth checking out if you have the time. No one seems really bothered by the clothing optional component.
On the subject of clothes, the main issue I had was that the hotel let me know that they only had 2 irons on the property so if you didn't request one early you were out of luck. This seems to be a pretty large oversight in a business hotel. Maybe wearing my clothes to the steam room would have worked!
Breakfast was fine.

Usually, hotels have rooms with an integral fitness facility but this one is primarily a fitness centre with rooms . I'm surprised at some of the negative comments made by others as to what is provided. This is reflected in the price paid. For €99 per night, I did not expect a free pool, for example, or luxurious public rooms. The room was of reasonable size, very modern and sparsely but comfortably furnished. The shower room is 'wet', with no surround or curtains and the wash basin is small and sloping towards the deep end and as the tap is over the deep end, it is impossible to immerse ones face in the water. The 9th Floor rooms were recently constructed and said by the staff to be the reason for some idiosyncrasies, such as just one lift of three goes there and dialing another room requires a list of special code numbers, not provided in the room. Also, information is extremely sparse, particularly regarding using the telephone. I could not figure out how to get an outside line or to dial another room and had to go to Reception to ask. A spacious deep garage is attached to the hotel, which is conveniently located just a few paces from the Central Station. Bedroom sound insulation is excellent and not a sound was heard or rumbling felt from frequent passing trains. Those wishing to pay to use the pool, beware! Except on Tuesdays, when wearing swim wear is optional, on all other days it is not allowed, so be prepared to take the plunge and bear it all! Do try the Top Level restaurant, reviewed elsewhere.

Room Tip: Check whether rooms not on the 9th Floor have a better telephone service and lift connections.

This is a relatively new hotel, which you either love or hate. I find the hotel great for business purposes. The hotel is located right next to the central train station which is just about in the centre of Leiden. The hotel itself is contained within an ultra-modern building that is shared by other businesses such as a hotel school. Consequently, guests may find the hotel to be a bit disjointed, with the reception being separated from the hotel floors. However, the rooms are very nice, being modern, quirky and comfortable. The restaurant and bar is situated on the top floor and is very good with possibly the best views of Leiden. The breakfast is offered on a lower floor and whilst some people complain about the quality of the food, I find it to be quite good. The staff are very friendly and helpful as far as Holland goes. This may have something to do with the hotel school, but whatever the case it is a good thing.

People have complained about the swimming pool and fitness centre. I am not sure why, but remember that this is a separate business and you would in any case only want to participate if you were a naturalist as I understand that this is what happens there.

Conveniently located for a business meeting, just right next to the train station.
Very modern-looking building, unusually friendly staff (esp. for Dutch hotels), nice spa at the top floor. Package deal was good value for money.

The hotel should officially be awarded as the "most ridiculous hotel on planet Earth!" --- Apprently, you cannot use their swimming pool after 10:00 am in the morning - (as a hotel guest).. after 10:00 you have to pay to use the pool.. and also, have to pay irrespective of the timing for the use of their welness...

Booked the hotel, and then immediately saw that this was the case-- called the hotel, and got a very enthusiastic helper who confirmed that this indeed was the case...
Cancelled the hotel booking right while wishing her a good evening ahead...

Room Tip: Don't go to the hotel which asks you to pay for the use of its facilities. Period.

We picked this hotel because of the pool pictures, but hotel guests we are not allowed to use the pool or sauna for free! Hotel guests get 20% off the 19 euro per person per evening or 31 euro per person per day charge to use the pool and sauna. So if 2 guests want a quick dip in the pool that will cost about $40.00 extra!

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your stay at Hampshire Hotel Fitland Level Leiden.
I am very sorry to hear that you were disappointed about the charge for the wellness facilities.
As you already mentioned the swimmingpool is free of charge for hotelguest between 7am till 10 am. After this time there is indeed a charge for the wellness.
I hope the rest of your stay were to your satisfactions?

Kind regards,
