“Great Food and Service, Just Book Off 5 Hours”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 May 2014

At a place this this it's a shame not to get the tasting menu. So that's what we did, 11 courses. Plus some free appies they bring everyone. The food was great, and the service was generally even better. They did this choreographed thing where they'd bring and take away the plates at the same time, lots of really nice touches. But the one problem is that the timing between courses seemed to slow to a crawl as the evening went on. I like the idea of a long dinner to savor, but the time in between very small courses started to get into the 20-30 minute range. Walked in the door at 7:58pm, left at 1:05am.

We had a wonderful meal here. the tasting menu was inventive and showed off his culinary genius! the service was fabulous and the atmosphere was great. we didn't feel rushed, although at times it felt a little slow. the flavours were fantastic and would certainly eat here again if i was ever in the area again.

“Curiously underwhelming”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 April 2014

We went to FG/Ivy with high expectations having had a five star meal there a few years ago not long after it opened. It is still an interesting place for an evening out with a very pleasant welcome, comfortable chairs and a quiet Rotterdamse view of the river and surrounding apartment blocks. We had booked via a dining scheme and had the relevant fixed menu. The first surprise was that the opening dish was the same piccalilli icecream (surprise) that led off the menu in 2010... still excellent but in the meantime the same tricks have been adopted by a lot of wannabe molecular chefs so we were a bit unsettled as to what it might mean. Next up was a duck foie gras cream served on a sweet baked cone: this was simply greasy and not nice. The soup was a variety of deconstructed gaspacho which was a bit bland, although we liked the straws provided so we could suck up the end of the vegetable liquor. Later we came to a cod dish that divided the table, some saying it was slightly overcooked and others that it was plain but very correct. We all had the (€15 supplementary price) scallop dish which I was prepared to love - except a single scallop doesn't leave much room for afftection. Good but oh so small! The meat course was beef cheek. This is simple comfort food that we eat at home and having it served here with some creamed vegetables and a spot of jus just wasn't enough - plus it was pretty salty. The desserts were stand-out brilliant, a great roast macadamia nut and icecream dish and a delightful spun sugar (cotton candy) 'nest' with little iced sweets in it.

The wine list is broad enough to provide something for every taste and we had a good time. The service was informal (reaching across one guest to get to another) but friendly, effiicient and the tempo was just right. The tables are a decent size, if a little close by Dutch standards, the table settings well done but again informal, no white linen tablecloths here. Good bread!

Bottom line: it's hard to see why this place has two stars and our guess is at least one will soon be in jeopardy since the food was "nice" but not very exciting and the flavors timid and confused. We hope this is not the case but it is only the expertise, commitment and excitement of the cooking that can distinguish any otherwise ordinary Rotterdam restaurant from the many other similar contenders.

“excellent food, but a bit slow”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 March 2014

I went here to start of a weekend in Rotterdam with my wife. Let me start with the most important thing : the food is excellent and very nicely presented, the food wine pairing was perfect.

Some minor drawbacks unfortunately too : i was not prepared for the relatively long waiting periods between the courses, the tables were positioned quite close to each other creating a rather noisy atmosphere.

In other words very very good, but in a 2* environment I am expecting full 100% perfection.

“"Ivy"”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 January 2014

This was one of the best experiences we had in Michelin Star restaurants! We were looking for one and at the end were extremely happy that we managed to find this one.
We visited it for lunch time and each course was something amazing!
At the end we could choose between desert and cheese selection, I had perfect chocolate desert and my partner cheeses. Water come with more than 50 different cheeses and he was so helpful to choose cheeses to satisfy my partner's taste :-)
I can tell for sure that this was the best Michelin Star we tasted and would definitely like to have opportunity to be there again!
