Took guided tour when staying on board. Very interesting story of the history of the vessel from her cruising days through refit to present day. Our guide sailed with ship and was involved in the transformation to the hotel that she is today. Apparently the vessel was completely stripped out (including removal of all asbestos which I believe was time consuming and costly). A great deal of the original furnishing, fitments and art work were packed away when vessel was stripped out and then refurbished & refitted to make this hotel a real view back into an elegant age. Some fantastic and thoughtful touches to retain authenticity like the ceiling in the 'Smoking Room' being inlaid with leather as apparently this helped absorb tobacco smoke. There is a lot of original art work and furnishing from Dutch artists and craftsmen / manufacturers. Of course all this would be wasted without informative and engaging guides and our guide was excellent.

When I went there, I took water taxi and went for a lunch in really sunny and warm summer day. On the ship, food was nice, enough for lunch, nothing spectacular. But interesting part is that there you get a feeling like you are in a vacation, swimming pool in the middle with people enjoying time and sunbathing while you have cold drink and nice food and rush back to office like after a small vacation.

Stepping aboard this vessel is like jumping in a time machine at the high seas! Entrance is free of charge, have nice cocktail in the bar.

In the news it started all wrong, the lost for real estate corporation Woonbron, the asbestos on the ship in Gdansk. But in contradiction: what magnificent to visit and be guest (even for some hours) on this ship with friendly and relaxed employees. We were even welcomed at the entrance of the ship and right away got some facts/explanation, we were shown were we had to go inside.

We entered in the world of the fifties how an emigration or smaller cruise ship looked like. With furniture and wall decorations of the fifties. Looked like former and passed away Queen Juliana still could come around one corner.

We, my brother-in-law and I, had a great guided tour through the machine room and were surprised how many different machines made this boat run by a guide who told us with funny anecdotes through his story. It might be chilly there, so take a coat with you! You could continue the tour yourself with an audio tour, we did until point 8.

In the Lido we had arriving on the boat coffee with pastry and later a great lunch with fresh bread in the sun on the deck. What a view at the sky-line of Rotterdam you have! Wow! The personal had time to have small conversations, which makes you really feel at home/comfortable, in Amsterdam they still can learn quit some hospitality from these Rotterdam friendly workers! In the museum shop we found a nice small booklet for only € 5,00 about the interior of the ship. I would say: if you're near the ship, visit it!

If you're in Rotterdam, it's easy to go to the boat from Wilhelminakade to Katendrecht with a bridge, but Katendrecht former island itself is also really great nowadays to look at and have a walk!

You have to be persistent, because the nagivation leads you through an odd and what could even be considered dodgy area. But there it is, the big ship paid for by the Dutch taxpayers!

Parking just in front, always nice, paid for, less nice. We went in with the aim to find the rooftrop terrace to have a drink with a view.

However, never got there as the staff referred us to the indoor bar, which was quite dull. Think 'Sunday afternoon pianobar not too well visited'.
So that turned out to be a quick visit for us! 20 minutes later we were back at the car again, only to find that indeed there was a roofto pterrace, and people were walking on it!

By then we were done with the ship, and left.
Mabye another try in the spring ...?
