Now dwarfed by world skyscrapers this fabulous gem has been saved by creating a boutique hotel of the highest standard.I stayed in the turret room with 20km views over one of the worlds oldest trading ports.Lively bar and restaurant well patronised by local smart set pre theatre/concert.Good public transport [ as all of Rotterdam...a pleasure to use ] 300m away at the end of the dock.Water taxi ok novelty in fine weather only . Dont bother with tiresome u/ground carpark [ expensive ] just park on the surface park at the rear like the locals. Negs?? Public area and reception can get congested , its too small and does not live up to the standards else where ion this wonderful , quirky Hotel.PS Duck feather pillows and real linen , just the best !!

We spent two nights at the New York which is situated on a penninsular in the middle of the Maas. Dwarfed either side by new highrise. The building was used by passengers departing for America in days gone by and has now been refurbished but keeping lots of old appeal and charm. When we arrived it was very windy and hard to walk and push your case across the forecourt. The entrance is around the side and you have to climb a flight of stairs to get in through the revolving doors, could be difficult for some guests.
Once inside and out of the wind the place is warm and welcoming with the feel of being in on an old ocean liner. The rooms had triple height ceilings and views over the river. Very clean and white with everything you need. The star was the bed which was the most comfortable hotel bed I have ever slept in.
The bar is large and buzzy with a good atmosphere, filled with office workers from the nearby buildings in the late afternoon but we were served quickly and it remains open until midnight. The restaurant surrounds the bar and is very large and busy all the time, serving lots of sea food, our starter was very good but the main courses a bit disappointing. We didn't have breakfast, which was an extra and seemed expensive.
You can get a watertaxi from the hotel over to Veerhaven, a short walk from here to the museum park or another one in to the centre of Rotterdam. They run regularly and can also be called up for you. Private watertaxis are also available to anywhere you'd like to go but cost alot more. The hotel reception sells tickets as does the office where to boats depart.
We used the underground car park next to the hotel which was convenient, but costly, 45 Euros for 2 night with the hotel discount.
In a semi basement at the side of the hotel is a traditional old fashioned Barbershop.
I would recomment this hotel to anyone visiting Rotterdam who likes to stay somewhere a bit different.

I stayed in this hotel for one night but I can recommend it to anyone who want to visit Rotterdam. The building is special. It was once built as a office for the Holland-America-Line. When they rebuilt it into a hotel they kept the original architectural features of the 1920/1930's. The room are big and well equipt. They restaurant food is good for a fair price. The spot is one of the best locations for the view but a little awy from the centre of Rotterdam. The rivertaxi stops in front of the hotel makes it easier to reach other places in town.

I stayed here on business with several colleagues. Each came down to dinner with the same story - an enormous corner room with high ceilings and harbour views. How is this? Well, the building isn't square, it has lots of indents, the harbour is on at least two sides and the rooms are spread over two very tall floors - so the chances are you'll get a room with many of these features. Added to that, good beds, good shower (no bath at least in my room) and stylish (if a little dark) decor. Not sure whether these were regular Riverside rooms or actual Corner rooms - from the photos, looks like mine was just a Riverside, but it still felt like being on a corner.

The restaurant obviously attracts more than just the hotel guests, which gave it a good buzz. Good prawn cocktail and main courses that followed a fishy theme. We drove in and drove out, not sure the hotel was exactly in the town centre for those using public transport.

Fantastic view on the enormous (largest in the world) harbour of Rotterdam from our room 205 with balcony.
Great service, however it takes them some time after 12.00 hrs. to get the rooms ready.

Room Tip: 135 is very quiet, 205 has a balcony with harbour view, windows on 2 sides of the room. Also free wi...

As a birthday present, my wife, 8-year old daughter and I went to hotel New York. I visited hotel New York a long time ago and in my memory it was a huge building. It still is but compared to the highrises around it, it seems a lot smaller.

Its location is very special with a beautiful view of the river which was great during the day but even more so at night with all the lights. They have a nice terrace where you can have a look at all the boats passing by. If you there for the weekend, parking in the street is free from saturday 6 pm till sunday 12 pm which can save you a few euros.

When you enter the building it gives you a really historic feel. The corridors going to the room were dated and in need for some renovation. In contrast, our room (212) was very modern and in excellent condition. By Dutch standards it was really large and had a nice view on the city center on the other side of the river (I would ask for a room on this side because it has better views than the other side).

Breakfast on sunday is also popular with non-hotel guest, so it was quite busy. The food was good but really felt like a home breakfast rather than a relative luxurious hotel buffet. Service was very dependent on the waitress, there were some very good and bad ones.

The hotel New York is definitely not the standard hotelchain hotel and really something special for a special occasion!

had a very cosy nice room with top quality beds and linen.
lots of space and great view on the harbor and river.
staff is kind and link with restaurant is good.
no noise in the room and possibility to open the windows which is quite important to me. seems not all rooms have this possibility and airco was not working properly i was told by some colleagues.
pro: location
contra: location since you'll have to walk or take a water taxi to go to the centre

Room Tip: ask for river harbor view
