Just got back from Rotterdam and wanted to write this down while it was all still fresh.
I didn't give it a terrible rating because the people who worked there were really very nice. However, I only ever saw receptionists behind the desk and that was it.
This is a cool place to stay if you like boutique hotels, and I did really like the fact that it was a historical building. That was about all I liked.
Pros: The building itself is super cool.
The water pressure in the showers was great, and the hot water was nice and hot, and cold was nice and cold. Beds were roomy and comfortable.
The restaurant outside is a wonderful place to hang out and enjoy yourself on a hot, sunny day, as we did, and it is convenient to the water taxi pickup stop (this was really special).

Cons: Because the building is very old, there are a few special considerations that really should be taken into account: there are steps leading up to the reception area; so if you are old, or if you have a lot of luggage, you are in trouble. I read a few other reviews where readers were dismayed that they had to hump their luggage up and down the stairs - well, be ready for this. No bellmen.
Also, (again), since the building is old, there is no insulation at all which means that if it is very hot as it was during our stay, you will roast in your room. I can therefore imagine that if it is very cold (as it mostly is in Holland) you will freeze in your room. There is air conditioning, but in the room our daughters stayed in (126) it made the room stink- REALLY badly, so they turned it off and chose to roast. Otherwise that room was really nicely decorated. We stayed in 101, a lovely unique boardroom with paneled walls. The wall to wall carpeting didn't look totally clean, and the Nespresso machine (I was so happy!) water carafe smelled moldy when I went to fill it up (I was so disappointed!).
Be aware that if you book a room here, breakfast is NOT included; this is written in really small type on the reservation confirmation although reception does tell you. I forgot, and we paid Euro 78. for two machine made do it yourself cappuccinos, two small glasses of juice, a horrible doughnut and three delicious croissants with cheese on them. Also, the decor of the restaurant is what Dutch people really love - a bunch of mismatched disgusting uncomfortable furniture eaten in an institutional-feeling setting; with lovely chandeliers hanging over it all as a tragic witness.

I really wanted to trash this place, and I am not going to come back here - but everyone was so, so nice and so, so sweet that I just couldn't. Also, keep in mind that it is Holland - a socialist country where everyone is treated equally. Meaning no special treatment for anyone, lots of DIY and all really extra expensive to pay for the struggling Euro countries, probably.....
I recommend this hotel for people who are traveling on a cruise ship and only have to stay here for one night. And who are nice and strong and can carry their luggage up the first set of stairs (after that, there is an elevator).

Room Tip: Ask for one that won't stink.

We stayed one night only, the hotel is beautifully design. all rooms are beautiful and are different from each other. perfectly clean, super comfortable bed, just great! The location is amazing!
It's perfect for a few days, however its not for you if you're traveling with a budget. Breakfast is very rich and big buffet, also a bit expensive but you get full value for your money.

Room Tip: If you're not on the budget, take the suite with the river view!

This hotel came recommended from a friend, and I would now recommend this hotel to anyone. HNY is charming from the moment you arrive, the building is very impressive (it used to be the offices for cruise liner that went from Holland/America) and all the rooms are unique, with New York American twist.

The room I stayed in was very spacious, I had one of best sleeps in ages (the bed line was just so comfy!), there was Air Conditioning, free Wi-Fi, Nespresso machine and everything else you expect from a 4star hotel room.

We ate both nights in the hotel restaurant where the food was great and reasonably price, also if you like seafood there is a vast amount to choose from! We decided not to have the hotel breakfast for 17.50euro, as I would probably not get my moneys worth. Instead we just ordered off the main menu in the morning (you can choose from the egg dishes or the bread menu) which was about half the price and was so good.

If you want to go to the main part of Rotterdam there are frequent water taxis from the pier, only 2.90 euros and is fun way to get around. If you are getting the metro to the hotel get off at Wilhelminaplein and the HNY is clearly sign posted.

When leaving out of Rotterdam with Holland America cruises, make sure you visit -or even better- stay overnite in HNY. The former Holland Amerika Lijn office offers you à splendid view at the Maas river. inside is à good restaurant and if you stay overnite you will sleep in one of the rooms that used to be an office of Holland Amrerika in the old days.make sure you book à room with à view at the Maas river and enjoy your ship coming in early the next morning. Enjoy your pre cruise day in Rotterdam!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view at the river

It is a design hotel located at the end of Pier. As the original Holland-American cruise line headquarters building, it was built in 1800s but elegantly renovated as a Hotel with a modern touch. Still the old iron staircases, huge corridors (although the lobby and the entrance is rather small) and very high ceilings take you to the old days.It is a bit far from the city center but the watertaxi is just in front and the metro is in walking distance. The view is really nice if you have a side room but each room is unique and some rooms do not have any view and enough light. All the rooms have their own coffee machine and free wi-fi all around the hotel. The restaurant where you have the breakfast is a huge hall and the buffet is good enough. The hotel has a terrace by the riverside and you can also enjoy your time with the perfect view if the weather permits. The staff is very friendly, kind and proffesional. Strongly recommended.

very nice old style hotel. we stayed there 5 years ago and we returned this May with our baby 16 months old. they provided baby bed for him and high chairs at the restaurant. The hotel is the former headquarters of a shipping company, now turned into hotels. very charming old style. The only downside is that our room did not have a bathtub (just a walk in shower) and our little baby did not like showering and no other room with shower was available. There is a staircase to access the building, so witha pram it was a bit complicated, but everything was fine. Nice stay and very good food at the restaurant

Room Tip: we chose the balcony room: quite big, very comfortable bedding and nice to have a balcony overviewin...
