“Fantastic experience at the Hotel Bazar”
Reviewed 9 January 2004

Myself, husband and child of 8 had a brilliant experience in Rotterdam, especially in the Hotel Bazar. Imaginative decor on three themed floors. Our first night was spent in a small(ish) 'African' Room - HUGE bed, millions of comfy, comfortable cushions. Second two nights spent in another of the African rooms - a la Stanley & Livingstone. Massive 4-poster, ethnic decor, and the bathroom (gasp) truly spectacular.
Immense half-barrel tub (in which my son could actually swim!), crystal chandelier. Food was great - predominantly North African. Huge portions, well presented by friendly, efficient staff. If you visit Rotterdam, it is an experience which you really ought not to miss. I will certainly be back to discover more!

I have eaten at the restaurant Bazar on many occasions. This time, I decided to stay at the hotel.

I was in a themed middle eastern room. It was like something from a fairy tale - Turkish lamps, satin ruffled bedspread, massive bed, and a bathroom I could quite happily have lived in.

I'd already booked for another stay, and was told on arrival that next month they'd put me in an african room for a change.

You can eat in the restaurant and have the meals put on your bill. The food is cheap, well-cooked, and the portions are enormous. The restaurant is busy and noisy, but full of atmosphere (sfeer if you speak Dutch!) Breakfast is very flexible, but isn't served till 10 at weekends.

The staff are lovely too. There is a disadvantage though. It's in such a lively part of town that you might well get little sleep. I personally think it's an inconvenience worth suffering, but it might get wearing if you're staying for any length of time.

The hotel is very popular...don't expect to get in on "spec". In November, it was full. That says it all. I can't wait to go back...and I've booked as far ahead as next Summer already.
