The Grand Hotel Central was probably a grand hotel many years ago but time has taken its toll. It is certainly suffering from a lack of TLC.
Perhaps awaiting refurbishment or even demolition I know not. I stayed there in June 2003. I noted the following defects in my room: dirty carpets, dirty bedcover, numerous squashed insects on the walls, lampshades broken, socket hanging from wall, curtains not on tracks, cigarette burn marks on carpet bedding furniture curtains, holes in curtains, tiles loose and missing around bath, wash hand basin hanging off wall, overflow missing from bath, my feet stuck to the grime (or whatever on the bottom of the bath) curtains could not be fully closed in bathroom or bedroom, toilet seat broken, paintwork dirty, furniture broken. Bird excreta on the windows. Outside the room the smell in the corridor was terrible. The lift was dirty and smelly looked as if someone had been sick in it. The dining room carpet was filthy the crockery was not as clean as it could/should have been. I have stayed in many hotels in The Netherlands at much cheaper rates that have been in immaculate condition and a credit to the Dutch but this hotel spoiled the whole of my recent holiday.More
