“Jazzy dinner”
Review of BIRD

BIRD
Ranked #640 of 1,121 Restaurants in Rotterdam
Price range: US$19 - US$50
Description: BIRD is equal parts restaurant, club and live venue. Deeply rooted in jazz, BIRD also branches out to soul, funk, R&B, hip hop and electronica and is regarded as thé spot for the cultural omnivore. The name BIRD is a reference to the nickname of the great saxofonist Charlie Parker so the link to jazz is quickly made, but BIRD also stands for pizza's from Napels, metropolitan rawness, good wines, no-nonsense beers, party people, headbangers and necksnappers. Have a taste!

Bird is a jazz bar/restaurant near the central station. There's plenty of music. And food. Sunday is left over day, with a €25 three course menu.
First: pâté of mixed meat with pear chutney and other delicious details - original and flavorful; ravioli filled with peas and mushroom served with mayonnaise with parsley and anchovies - lacking in flavor.
Second: porc neck with sauerkraut and lentils - heavy and meaty but good balance with the sides; dorade on spinach with cherry tomatoes and baked bananas - very tasty.
Desert: chocolate mousse, chestnut sauce, tutti fruity, prumes - yum.
Moonshine homemade grappa to flush it down with - on the house!

Thank Psasha

When my friend and I came in, the place was pretty busy already, Luckily we had a reservation. We started with a prosecco and also got a basket of bread (with olive oil) and a jug of tap water. They don't have the concept of a 3,4 or 5 course menu anymore; you can just order from a menu or choose a suprise 3 course meal (of course, they will take diet/allergies into consideration). My starter was very well prepared tuna and my friend had something with meat (so the menu can differ from person to person!). The main course was seafood, with scallops, white fish, mussels and langoustines, which tasted excellent. Desert was a white chocolate mousse with passion fruit. Very sweet, but a good finish of the meal. So, the food was tasty, the staff however did not seem to have their day. It took quite a while before we got the food, I guess it was too busy for the kitchen to handle it all. They even got into a bit of a fight (not very professional), which we could follow, because they have an open kitchen (love that!). Some customers were in a bit of hurry and got angry, we however had enough time to catch up. My friend has been here before and was always very happy with the place and the food is great, so I would visit again. Bird is also a 'jazzpodium', but that's in a different area than the restaurant. It can be nice to combine dinner with going to a performance.
