“Superb hotel at superb location”
Reviewed 15 April 2014

A truly special and fantastic hotel, the nhow in Rotterdam. Breathtaking views on the very impressive skyline of Rotterdam. The building itself, De Rotterdam /architect Rem Koolhaas, is an unique example of minimalistic but still warm design. The hotel has all the services you would expect for this type of quality standard. Very nice bathroom, excellent beds and the views you receive as an extra... amazing. The breakfast is very good, a lot to choose from and very fresh. I have seen many hotel rooms during holidays and business trip's, this one is my top favourite! A must see/must experience!

Room Tip: Go for the "sunset side" and sleep with the curtains opened

This hotel on a stunning location has just started and really has wonderful perks. The view over the city is wonderful. The Rotterdam skyline is impressing and the best seat to view it is in nhow. The room we stayed in was good and modern, great bed, full set of pillows you can choose from. In this respect the hotel was value for money, and the hotel is expensive.
But.... get your staff in order. We arrived late on Saturday. A simple greeting, a welcome to nhow doesn't cost a thing and is an ice-breaker. Staring at the computer screen for 5 minutes, even with 3 staff members, without sharing what the problem is and therefore letting the guests wait doesn't make you feel welcome. Having the door open to the staff room with lots of junk doesn't give a good impression as well. Advertising the next day in the elevator that because of the Rotterdam Marathon you can ask at reception how en when to get out of the city is strange when reception doesn't know the answer. I had to walk to the police standing on the Wilhelminaplein to get the information.....
A good morning at the breakfast would make you feel welcome. Nothing of the sort. So all the wonderful things nhow has, gets diminished by the personal contact. Word of advice: train your staff, and train them now.

Beste Ras0407,

Dined with 8 colleagues and it was really really disappointing from beginning to the end. Not the food, it was good, certainly for the price, but that could never compensate for the dreadful, disinterested and amateurish service (I can't begin to describe everything that went wrong, which I could even accept if their attitude hadn't been so lousy!). And the restaurant area is bland, bland, bland and it makes NO use of it's potential great setting and view. Will definitely not return.

A skyline view that makes the Netherlands feel like Tokyo! Liked the minimalistic design and look of the hotel a lot. A lot of nice details everywhere, from the artwork in the reception to the comfy beds with a selection of pillow sizes. The bar serves a superb dry martini and the breakfast buffet has a lot of delicious things to choose from.

What kind of hotel let's you chose out of three sizes of cushions, has an interactive flatscreen computer-tv hidden behind the mirror AND the best view over Rotterdam? The NHow, flavoured by Rem Koolhaas and a bunch of other Dutch artists. But what really sets this hotel apart from the rest is the copious and healthy breakfast (till noon!) with lots of fresh fruits, chocolate mousse and even pancakes, if you want them. And I love the attitude and outfits of the young and hip staff.

Brand new hotel, but the design left a lot to be desired, we had a sunset room (1303 on the 13th floor) with a great view. The very modern glass bathroom meant that you could clearly see into the shower and washing area and the toilet had clouded glass - I was with my husband so it was not too bad, but I would have died if I had been travelling with a friend. I don't know if they had fitted the mirrored glass wrong, but when the light was on in the bathroom you couldn't see out, but you could see in very clearly. There is nowhere in the shower to put soap, shampoo etc. Despite the glass bathroom and the view the room felt small. All very hard shiny surfaces, bare floor and painted concrete made it feel very stark and cold. The noise from the Trams going over the bridge was not very pleasant and quite regular, but at least it stopped about midnight. The bed was comfy enough but I didn't sleep too well and kept thinking I was falling off the side for some reason. Early breakfast was ok - no different to any other 4 * breakfast, on the second day we went down later and it was far too crammed with people, so decided to miss it. There was a nespresso coffee machine in the room, but no instructions as to how to use it - so I can't tell you how that was. The heating/AC was also a bit mysterious and noisy - All in all not really my thing - all very cold modern and impersonal.

Room Tip: Sunset rooms look over the Bridge but may be noisier because of the trams

We felt like royalty here. We were escorted to our room, and all technicalities was clearly explained. We had a great view from the 18th floor over rotterdam and its harbours. After dinner there is a bar on the 7th floor, also open for public. The DJ plays his beats while we enjoyed the amazing views of the Erasmus Bridge and drinks. After that just rolled up to our room and slept on super comfy beds. Even the toileteries in the bathroom were top notch. The next morning you wake up with amazing sunny morning views. The breakfast buffet was also top class. Ask the cook to make your eggs any way you want. Splendid service and such luxury. I would definately come here again.

Dear Betina,

How nice of you to write a review on Tripadvisor!
Thank you for all the positive details you're describing. It's good to hear that you had a great stay at our hotel. I have forwarded your lovely words to our staff.

During summer we have also the terrace outside on the 7th floor where you can enjoy the amazing view, while you're enjoying a nice cocktail or a bite. So don't forget to come over when you're in Rotterdam!

I hope we may welcome you again at our hotel!
