“Small room and chaos at breakfast”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 December 2010

Staff were friendly enough at check-in and I was given a room on the 7th floor overlooking the waterfront. It was a relaxing scene. The room was small however and there was some difficulty manoeuvring with my mid-size suitcase. The bathroom was also small and cramped. Heating was on full, but it is possible to open the windows, so that was less of a problem. As someone mentioned in a previous review, free wifi is a bonus. Breakfast was a bit of a free-for-all. The selection was good, but it was busy and stuff that was finished was not replaced quickly. Also, tables were not cleared quickly so there were people milling around looking for places to sit. The buffet was relatively cramped also and so this caused a major traffic jam with people trying to get to the buffet and people looking for seats getting in each other's way. Not such a great breakfast experience.

Booked two nights in this hotels based on reviews and hotels own web site very much wish I had not. On the hotels web site you could pre book breakfast and dinner, I booked dinner for the 2nd night this was a big mistake. On the evening found I could not eat in the restaurant as the deal could only be taken in the bar/bistro and was a very poor fixed menu, no mention of this was made on the web site. Booked a Design Panorama Top Floor room, view excellent, rooms may be design but was very minimalist and I did not enjoy the clear window through to the bathroom and toilet. All of this gave no warmth to the room which was very unwelcoming and cold in nature. All in all a very average hotel for the price paid.

Good value for the money. Stayed for 5 nights on business. Location, at the foot of the Erasmus Bridge, is central, but quiet. Hotel soundproofing is excellent - you wouldn't even be aware of traffic noise below (two, large 6-lane roads intersect the hotel). That said, ask for a room on the back-side (canal side) of the hotel, as the streets are quite busy with cars, trams, and those pesky, un-mufflered, small engine motorbikes that have sprouted up like cockroaches all over Rotterdam, and use the bike lanes.

Hotel is right by a metro stop (Leuvehaven on the C line), but Beurs interchange is a 5-minute walk away. #8 streetcar also goes by the hotel. About a 5 min tram/metro ride to Rotterdam Centraal, making it convenient for travellers. There's an Albert Heijn grocery store 2 blocks away (on Vasteland) - convenient for small groceries for the room and prepared meals.

Hotel itself is good. Fairly new (5 years), this used to be the Tulip Inn. Under the Inntel brand, it's been repositioned to be a little more edgy and boutique-like. There are two towers. The regular, which is an 8-storey tower attached to a nightclub, with rather plain and run-down rooms. A much better bet is the Panorama Tower - a 16-storey tower overlooking the bridge and Maas.

My room was a "Top Floor Panorama". It was quite spacious, with a large bathroom containing one of the biggest soaker tubs I've seen (also separate shower stall with rainhead shower). Water pressure was great, and the room very quiet. The hotel has invested in high-quality windows, and traffic noise was imperceptible. Room amenities are OK - nothing special, but clean and modern. The room's floor was laminate - a nice change from mold-infested carpeting that these hotels sometimes have. The desk was large, and TV a small flatscreen. All in all, better than the average European 4-star.

Unlike many hotels in Rotterdam, the Inntel had free Wifi throughout. Quality was great, and I never had any blackouts or failures. In some places, they'll charge 15-20 Euro a day for spotty Wifi, so this was a definite bonus.

Breakfast was great, and at 18 Euros (if pre-booked through the front desk - otherwise it's 23 Euro as a walk-up), par for the course price-wise. However, the buffet was extensive, regularly replenished, and staff attentive. Good value, though not a bargain.

Staff are friendly and helpful, and fluent in English and French. The hotel itself has a nautical motif, and with the canal right off the back, appropriately picturesque. There is a pool, but it's really just a big bathtub (about 10x10 meters). However, the sauna and steam rooms more than make up for it, as does the lounge on the 8th floor. There is a small, closet-sized gym with the usual third-rate lifecycle machines. Not special, but again, better than the average Rotterdam hotel that either has no facilities, or just one rusty 1970-era belt-driven stationery bike squeezed in beside the guest toilets.

The hotel is entirely non-smoking (which, to the average Dutch tourist just means "open the window in your room, and don't get caught"). However, they really seem to enforce it, and signs in the hotel and elevators reinforce this, asserting that a 150 Euro fee will be levied if evidence of smoking is found. That said, be prepared to wade through a miasma of secondhand smoke from all the smokers congregated at the hotel's entrance when you arrive or leave the hotel.

There is parking onsite, but it is an open-air garage underneath the hotel. There is no security, and staff did tell me that there are regular break-ins.

My overall impression of the hotel is quite positive. It is well situated - close to the CBD without being in the midst of it, close to transit, and close to the sights. The price was fair, and the hotel delivered good value for the money. I will stay again, and would recommend it.

Been to this hotel many times this year and certanly my favourite in Rotterdam

Great location (10 mins walk or 1 tube stop from Beurs) and great views from top floors (definitely recommend to upgrade to a panorama room, better quality and great views, typically cost €25/night more).

Hotel has a good pool and sauna/steam bath. Gym is very small.

Breakfast is a bit expensive (€18)

*Booked a Hästens Suite with Sunshower in the beginning of November. Upon checkin they told us we were upgraded to a suite with private sauna. Room was spacious and absolutely perfect! Nice view over the Erasmus bridge. Bathroom with double whirpool, separate shower and a sauna. The beds were so nice to sleep on!

*Location is a small walk from the city center, with some nice restaurants in the direct vicinity.

*Parking is under the hotel itself, and is quite expensive for the location (21 EUR per night).

We were upgraded (with appologies) to another room immediatly without any fuss after we complained that the noisey lift opposite our room kept us awake all night. All in all very friendly and understanding staff. Serice with a smile. This is my second stay at this Hotel and I would defanatly recommend. Good value for the price. Clean bright fresh rooms. The pool area, sauna and steam room are wonderful and a lovely bonus at the end of the day-only wish i'd taken advantage of it more!...

Booked here for one night based on reviews on another website. I arrived about 9pm and there was only one person on reception so had to wait to be seen, but they were friendly. Room was ok, I had two single beds. I have only given it 3 stars for service since when I ordered room service there were only 4/5 options, nothing vegetarian, and the restaurant phoned me to check whether I had received my food! Room was clean enough but pretty cramped.
Breakfast was something like 25 Euros and it didn't seem as though you could get anything cooked.
