“stay away!”
Reviewed 29 March 2007

Stayed in this hotel for only 1 night on 28th of March 2007. Even though we booked 2 rooms, when we arrived we were told there was only one room booked for us. We had to wait 20 minutes until they could assign us a second room. Room was very small with a kitchenette in one corner. Shower room was very simple without even a shower tray to stand on. Water drained through a hole on the floor. There is no air conditioning and the room was very hot and stuffy. Some rooms overlook the railway so if you want fresh air you will have to listen to trains passing by. However, that was not the worst part. The soap dispenser in the toilet dispensed not soap but some dirty black liquid! Even after having asked for soap a couple of times, we did not get any. There is also no hotel toiletry provided. So if you happen to be staying only for 1 night on business and did not bring your own, you are in trouble. The IKEA bed did not have a headboard and the sheets were torn and holed in a few places. The room was so cramped that in order to get into the bed you had to climb in from its foot. The walls, doors and the sofa were dirty with marks and there were what we thought to be dog hairs on the carpet. When we expressed our discontent all we got was an insincere "oh such a shame".
We paid a whopping 175 Euros for one night for a room which is not any better than a cheap student dormitory. I do not intend to stay in this hotel ever again and will only recommend it to those I despise.

Location:
The locals were not very complimentary of the area where Best (!) Western Art is situated and -it may have been a slight exaggeration- we were advised not to go for a stroll after dark.

For me the reception people was really unprofessional. It took me more than half hour to check-in , the same to check-out. Just for my self.

The rooms are small and uncomfortable, look like IKEA showroom.

HIgh price for the room and service really unpleasant.

Unable to find a hotel in Amsterdam or the surrounding area we finally arrived at the Art hotel, Rotterdam. Only suites availabe at a cost of €215 excl breakfast.

Check in took 15 minutes with the only receptionist continually disturbed by the phone and other enquiries.

The restaurant at night had only one waitress who also doubled as the bar attendant, suffice to say that service was unbeliveably slow.

However, the absolute worse was still to come. Came down to the lobby at 06:30 to check out. Seeing that the breakfast bar was already set out I attempted to obtain a glass of orange juice. I was promtly told that breakfast only started at 07:00 and that I could not have a glass of orange juice. On protest it was made quite clear that I could not have a glass of orange juice as breakfast was not yet available despite my paying €215 for a single night.

Please note there are also permanent rsidence living in this hotel, one of which was witnessed carrying his bycicle up to his room in the elevator - not what you would expect of hiotel costing €215 night.

Finally, the suite was poorly maintained and didn't contain either a full length mirror or a mini bar.

Please avoid this hotel.

Stayed at this hotel on business for 2 months. The deluxe rooms are better than the standard "Ikea" rooms which are small but comfy (single beds only). All rooms have a kitchenette (sink, cutlery, kitchen units, a small electric hob, fridge and kettle). The standard Ikea rooms have a shower "wet room" with shower curtain (so it's not that wet!) and the deluxe have a bath and the bathroom is a lot bigger.

Obviously the deluxe rooms are a lot nicer and larger with double beds and a Sofa to lounge on. Only let down of the hotel is that it's not in the city centre although the Metro Maashaven is opposite (7 mins into town). The other downside is the Metro itself, as it's opposite, the noise can sometimes be very annoying and very loud depending on which side of the hotel your room is on. Also there is no air conditioning (it was very hot during a heat wave they had).

From what I understand, the hotel was originally supposed to be a block of flats (half of it still is - top half), the rest was turned into standard and deluxe rooms, hence why there is no aircon.

The staff are friendly enough but service was slow in the restaurant (which has a limited menu) when busy (which wasn't too often!). But obviously you do have a kitchenette available and there is a supermarket about a 10 min walk from the hotel.

Would only stay there if I couldn't get a better deal in town as the rooms are new and clean. Otherwise, there are better hotels.
