Holiday Park Kijkduin
Reviewed 19 July 2012

We were two families with two one year old children in two seven persons houses. Spent more than half an hour on the phone upfront to make sure the message was received that we wanted the houses to be very clean and to have working floorheating.

Once we arrived the toilet stank extremely of urine and one of the windows was broken. When we called about it an hour later two completely overworked persons came to clean and to fix the window. Since this park is all about making money these poor workers are totally understaffed and have ridiculous targets.

The houses we booked were suppost to be suitable for small children but the sockets were unprotected. So first thing we could do was go to the store to buy them. Behind our houses there was construction work being done. A new house was being build which led to extreme noise from 8 o'clock in the morning until 4 o'clock in the afternoon. When we complained about it, the first thing the receptionist did was throw their general conditions book at us by stating they were allowed to ruin our holiday with noise. Which of course isn't true because the law supersedes their general conditions.

From that day on my brother in law has been chasing the parkmanager who kept on promising to talk to us but did a runner for days. Eventually he offered our exhausted children who could take their daynap an icecream (!)

The houses had the look of not being finished when constructed. Building plates openly on the ceiling, no rainpipe and some lame architectural mistake by making the bathroom in a place where you couldn't stand up without hitting your head this included the showerarea. And of course....the floorheating wasn't working.

The moneyhunger reaches insane levels when you find out that even for the children's trampoline you have to pay.

Staff seems to be in a constant fight or flight modus which I can imagine.

The one star extra is just for the cleaning lady and the technical service guy who work like hell with way to little resources and still treat the customers nicely. They deserve an award for this.

There are several excellent Roompot group parks, but this one is by far the worst. Management should be sacked instantly and the park desperately needs an update.

If you like your holiday parks to resemble prison camps, you're in the right place. Located right on the beach in Kijkduin (the Hague), you find several hundred identical brick and wood huts.

Obviously, the main attraction here is the proximity to the beach. The Kijkduin beach is quite nice, but expect it to be hugely busy in the high season. Kijkduin itself is a 15 minute walk away, but there is very little to do there either. On the part, a children's play area was near our house, but taped off. By the second day, parents had let their children play on the slides anyway, despite the red and white "danger" tape - a sign of how little there is to do on the park.

The huts are old and tired and in need of a redecoration. A lot of plaster was missing from the walls and the whole place just felt tired. The kitchen was relatively well appointed, but the oven / microwave combo was pathetic - stove-top cooking is the order of the day here.

The park is the usual overpriced Dutch holiday rental. Expensive, boring and utterly dead 6pm. Given that there is nothing to do, we went out to the beach cafes instead. This required us to leave via a giant security gate - wide open during the day, but clangs shut automatically at 11pm. Quite why is a mystery - it can't be for security as all we did was walk around to the main gate (which wasn't manned) and came in that way. All it did was add 10 minutes to my journey. In fact, the whole park appears to be unmanned after 8pm - when we called up to ask why our sheets and towels hadn't been delivered (for the second time) we were put through to a call centre 50 miles away.

For the price you pay for these places, you really need to have a very compelling reason to be in Kijkduin. There are just so many better ways to spend your holiday money - including staying at home.

Stayed Tuesday-Thursday in May due to my parents wedding anniversary nearby. Bungalow had 3 bedrooms, living / dining room / kitchen, bath/showerroomm separate WC and terrace. Needed to call several times as no linens had been delivered, picked them up from reception in the end (just before closing, otherwise you get service centre in Zeeland!)

Advantage is being close to the beach. Bungalow has most modcons (dishwasher, microwave) but needs updating. Park closes from the beach side at 11pm with huge gate and floodlight - who are they trying to keep in/out at you could simply walk around to the front gate and enter the park. Pointless yet annoying! Rest of the park is your typical holiday park, dreadful restaurant, overpriced supermarket and that depressing feel of young parents feeling they need to stay there for their kids but there is nothing there for them but desolation!

Kijkduin Park is located on the outskirts of hauge, a 10 min. ride by car from the highway. The park belongs to Roomport. We stayed 6 nights in the park during a family vacation to the nederland. The surroundings are nice enough, located in a small forest. There is also a well equipped supermarket with well above average prices, and a diner we didn't really tried.
As we were going out every morning and returning only to sleep, we wanted the accomodation to be comfortable - They were not. We got a small suite, with 3 bedrooms, living hall, kitchen, terrace and one bathroom. You get only one set of linens and towels, and have to put it yourself on the beds. If you want more, you have to pay. It turned out that the guests are responsible to clean the suite when they leave. Let's say that the previous guests did not leave the suite very clean and at least one of them kept a dog inside as we learned from all the dog hairs we found. One night my dughter wanted to sleep on the sofa in the livingroom, and in the morning it turned out that she was covered with flee bites!! Also we found dirty dishes left by the previuos guests.
You get 1 roll of toilet paper & 1 trash bag, which are obviously not enough, and you have to go out and buy more. You get the feeling that the managment is very cheap.
As theoretically you are fined if you do not clean your suite, we had to get up very early on our departure day, and clean the house.
We are definatley not going to return there or to any of Roomport parks, in the future.

Room Tip: Ask for a pet free room in advance and order a final day cleaning!!
