Owner description: The Louwman Museum is home to the world's oldest private collection of motor cars, compiled by two generations of the Louwman family. The museum dates back to 1934 and now comprises over two hundred and fifty antique and classic motor cars. Experts regard the collection as one of the most beautiful in the World. The museum exudes passion. Each car has its own story to tell, its own contribution to history. The motor car is a mirror of culture. The collection is housed in a purpose-built museum in The Hague, the city where P.W. Louwman established his Dodge and Chrysler import company. The building, designed by American architect Michael Graves, blends in sympathetically with its historic surroundings. The landscape gardens, designed by Lodewijk Baljon, complement the architecture of the building.

Everyone who thinks he knows about cars or likes cars must be here. The display of beauty and elegance, the display of auto industry as art. Made with love and tylical Dutch scurpuliosity, it takes not only by its size (which is hige, make no mistake, you WILL need three hiurs!) but also by the way it tells its story.

The building itself made quite an impression before we even got inside and viewed the collection! It is set in large grounds with good car and bike parking. The reception staff were helpful and friendly. Visitors begin the self-guided tour on the second floor, and the exhibition is in chronological order starting with early horse-drawn carriages, progressing to steam and then petrol vehicles. One section is divided into different decades through the twentieth century, and there are specialist sections, e.g. racing cars and American Cadillacs. Look out for the Aston Martin that Sean Connery drove in Goldfinger! All exhibits have full descriptions in Dutch and English. On the ground floor of the museum you can walk through an authentic-looking old fashioned 'street' which opens into a restaurant area. Our only regret was not allowing enough time to explore this fascinating museum. We would allow three hours next time.

This is a superb place to visit by bicycle, car or public transport. It is near the park where the Royal Palace is situated between The Hague and Wassenaar.
The architecture is superb and state of the art with excellent accessibility for all. The collection is extensive and ranges from the dawn of motoring through to the modern day. The racing car collection is great as well as the cars of historical significance (either design landmarks or famous owners). The memoribilia and auto art collection was worth seeing let alone the cars!!!

I were very satisfied and happy to visit this museum that I came twice and brought my friends. Only thing I was pushed off was very poor service by the account. Been there twice and accountants serving with tickets were very rude and arrogant. They dont bother explaining or answering your questions. Also there is no such a waiting room where you could use a caffee if I would try come again. This is not very thoughtful and business orientated.

My friend recommended this museum to me as one of the "must sees" in The Hague. I was very impressed with the number of vehicles that have been collected under one roof. The exhibit progresses from the earliest motor vehicles to the present, and includes classic as well as fanciful designs. As an engineer, I found it very interesting to see the various design iterations that led to our present car designs, including early electric vehicles and some unusual three-wheeled designs. We spent two hours but could easily have spent double that time, were it not closing time. This museum is not open on Mondays so plan accordingly.
