Owner description: The Mauritshuis is home to the very best of Dutch Golden Age painting. The compact, yet world-renowned collection, is situated in the heart of The Hague, right next to the government centre. Masterpieces such as Vermeer's Girl with a Pearl Earring, The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp by Rembrandt, The Goldfinch by Fabritius and The Bull by Potter are on permanent display in the intimate rooms of this seventeenth-century monument.

“Great experience”
Reviewed 14 January 2014

I was awaiting for my friends to arrive in Amsterdam, and instead for shopping and drinking coffee i took the train to Den Haag. Good decision ! :)
Is not a big museum but for sure is breathtaking, full of pictures and not to be missed.

“Small but charming collection”
Reviewed 25 November 2013

The Museum houses a small but charming eclectic collection of paintings. Beware, there can be lines (though nothing like an Amsterdam line for a museum). And my only complaint is that it gets a bit cramped inside. Pictures are hung very closet together, and rooms are small, making it difficult to back up and focus on any one work.

“Mauritshuis - such a lovely Museum”
Reviewed 1 November 2013

It'd worth time to take one day from your Netherlands trip to visit this Museum in Den Haag, the collection and the way it's organised is so interesting, the audiovideo-guide is the best that I had for the time being. It's not so big so you can see all the collection for one visit and you know I wish to see it again.

Temporarily housed in the municipal museum, this collection of paintings is really extraordinary. Not to be missed.

“Nice collection of Northern Painters but not very big”
Reviewed 21 October 2013

I think I saw some Rembrandt (4 or 5), Vermeer (not much) and Rubens and many other Dutch and Flemmish painters' works. However, 'The girl with the Pearl Earring' was on an exhibition in the US, so could not see it in my both visits in the summer of 2013. The explanations beside the paintings were satisfactory and of course as in many other museums in the Netherlands in English, (I did not need an audio guide badly.)
In my second visit, we had just half an hour to visit, so the staff granted us a small free visit. We appreciated that. I like the general standard of Dutch museums and Mauritshuis was not a dissapointment, however if you are looking for a bigger shot, Rijksmuseum would be more satisfactory. One more thing is that the museum is not at its normal location, but temporarily moved to Gemeente Museum, which is a couple of stops away from the city center, but this temporary location is also nice with some works of art about sustainability in open-air.
