“Exquisite room and very pleasant staff”
Reviewed 12 March 2014

I have stayed at Paleis Hotel twice - once in May 2011 and with my Wife in June 2013. Both experiences were good in terms of room quality and hotel standards. The last trip was however more memorable. On arrival, we were informed that our reserved room was suddenly unavailable due to some piping problems but they had made arrangements to have us accommodated at a nearby hotel for the first night and thereafter upgraded us to the Executive suite. The room was exquisite. It is a pleasure staying there. Convenient to get around the city and I will definitely be returning.

Room Tip: The rooms along Molenstraat can get noisy in the early evening. If you need to sleep early, ear plug...

Unfortunately, my stay at the Paleishotel was a deception: although the entrance area looks nice and welcoming, the same cannot be said of the room I stayed in. The painted walls were damaged, full of stains and the bathroom had mould in it (the hotel clerk told me this was a recent problem due to issues with ventilation). As soon as I had seen the room, I went down to the reception - after all, it might be that my room was the only one not yet renovated - but I was kindly informed that all rooms were similar and that an update to a more expensive room type was not possible. A paint job would do this hotel good. Without it, it looks not charming, but old and tired. Too bad. Even the friendly staff can't make up for it.

We spent the night in this charming hotel during a citytrip to The Hague. It's a charming hotel with a nice atmosphere. Room was spacious, service very friendly. The location is amazing, around the corner are theatres, bars, restaurants and the King's work-palace (hence the name).
Some small details: we would have welcomed better lights in the room, it was a bit dark. Also I keep wondering why so many hotels have a shower in a bathtub that is impossible to use without flooding the bathroom. Not only is it unpleasant for the guest, it must be a nightmare for housekeeping, let alone maintenance. Please, dear hotelowners, I'd rather have a goodsized walk-in shower than al these bath/shower compromises!
Would I recommend this hotel? Yes, very much so.

Stayed here for two nights some years ago and were very delighted with the beautiful rooms and bathrooms, excellent breakfast and superb service. Situated in the middle of town a great place to stay to sightsee Den Hague

We recently stayed at the Paleis Hotel and had a wonderful stay. The hotel was beautiful, charming and in a fantastic location. The staff were gracious and very accommodating. The rooms were beautifully done, the beds very comfortable and the breakfast, fantastic.
Our room rate included breakfast and we felt that the hotel was very competitively priced. Why stay a larger, impersonal hotel when you can truly enjoy the luxuries of a beautiful boutique hotel?

A very beautiful hotel with gorgeous old fashioned settings and features. The lobby and reception desk is like going back in time and a welcome break from the sterile cookie cutter receptions you get elsewhere. My only gripe is the beds are as old as the surroundings and the mattress was not only uncomfortable from the springs but also sagged in the middle

Dear guest,
Thank you for your feedback and for your kind words about our hotel.
However we do not understand your comments about the bed!
First of all our hotel certainly is not an "old hotel". The building itself indeed dates of the 17th century and our hotel is located in the oldest, historic area of The Hague. This makes our hotel unique.
We have completely renovated all rooms and public areas according to the highest standards. The beds are new and of the best quality. They all are either Pullman box spring beds or Jensen box spring beds. We realize though that the comfort of beds always is a personal experience.
Kind regards,
Owner/ General Manager

In the heart of the old city, close by foot or by tram to most cultural activities and attractions, the hotel is located on a charming little street. At night, the hotel offers calm. However, the Paleis do not come to the ankle of the promises made by its publicity. Should we speak of a Has Been ?
The staff is courteous, the room is clean but the matelasses should very soon be changed.
