We had a three night stay in a Superior category room on the Starwood Preferred Guests floor (4th floor).

The hotel was exceptionally impressive. The public rooms on the ground floor are as grand and sumptuous as anyone could wish, with tall pillars, a grand staircase, opulent red decor and ornate furnishings.

Our room was extremely attractive. The bed was wonderfully comfortable and the room was quiet at night for undisturbed sleep. The room was nicely equipped, had formal dark wood furniture, and a pleasant view from the window. The bathroom was a good size, and well stocked with toiletries and towels. The two wash basins were an odd design though, with the tap getting in the way, right over the middle of the wash basin.

The spa in the basement had a small pool, with water jets which means you can try and swim against the jet flow. It is tricky to get used to. The changing room, spa and steam room were all to a good standard.

Service from the friendly staff was very professional. Overall, this luxury hotel was good value for the quality and standards it provided.

What we liked:
The interior of the hotel is very traditional and old-school luxurious.
Rooms were spacious and beds were very comfortable.

What we did NOT like:
- extra 40 EUR for a twin-bed rooom instead queen (was not mentioned at time of booking)
- extra 20 EUR for WIFI
- extra 32 EUR for parking
- bathrooms featured very old-style fittings which looks nice but are not really functional

Because of all these extras, the 130-year anniversary rate of 160 USD turned out almost double.
We simply felt conned.

Dear Guest,

We would like to thank you for taking the time to write a review about your stay at Hotel Des Indes, a Luxury Collection Hotel.

We completely understand your disappointment about the fact that there are a few additional costs on top of your hotel charge. Unfortunately we do not have superior rooms with twin beds, what it the reason you need to agree upon an upgrade, which is not complimentary. All the features that are included in the 131-year anniversary rate are communicated towards you via the channel of booking. We hope you will understand this.

Furthermore we will have a look at the functionality of the bathrooms together with our engineering team.

We hope that you will grant us a renewed opportunity to welcome you back at Hotel Des Indes, a Luxury Collection Hotel.

Kind regards,
Pierre-Henri Bovsovers

Hotel Des Indes is in the heart of The Hague where many embassies, the House of Parliament, quaint shops, restaurants and high end homes are located. The Royal Dutch Family lives in The Hague in a palace close to the hotel and has held various events there for decades past to the present. The hotel is situated adjacent to a beautiful park which provides a great place for walking and terrific views from many rooms. The main restaurant has an excellent array of dishes with exquisite presentation. The bar and a less formal restaurant area is available for ordering requests from any of the menus. The concierge services were friendly and helpful, our room was spacious and well decorated, the beds and linens were worthy of royalty, and the bathroom was modern and equipped with a rain shower, heated stone floor and towel rack.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the park.

Some 50 years ago I was a not-too-affluent student at the Technological University in Delft a few miles south of the Hague, and we always thought the Hotel des Indes was a classy luxury hotel well beyond our range. The Dutch Royal family comes there for banquets and meetings; the German High Command made it their headquarters during their occupation of the Netherlands in WWII; they knew what was good.

So it was with some anticipation that we stayed there recently. We were not disappointed. We used our Starwood points and they had a special desk and a special wing in the hotel for Starwood guests. Our room was spacious enough, and the bed, which was very comfortable, had a silk canopy, which gave it a very luxurious feeling. There is an old-fashioned desk for writing. The bathrooms are exceptional; two modern separate sinks, a large rain shower bath and, best of all, a very clean heated stone floor you can walk on your bare feet. Room service was excellent. There was an electric water kettle and when we asked for clean tea cups every day, somebody would bring these within a few minutes

The hotel is not very large, and it has a European elegant feel to it in the interior decorations and in the courteous service of the staff. But as befitting their 5-star status, there is an unwritten dress code for some parts of the hotel. If you go the lounge or to the restaurant, I suggest you should be nicely dressed if you want to feel comfortable.

The hotel is located in a wooded park close to the Houses of Parliament. Sometimes they have sculpture exhibits in the park. But it is only a 10-minute walk to the center of The Hague, so it is very well located. They have outdoor parking in front of the hotel. If you drive your own car, it can be difficult to get there, because many of the roads in that neighborhood are one-way.

It is very nice to read that you have finally stayed in our hotel after long dreaming about it. All of or rooms vary in size and lay-out, so I hope you will have the opportunity to return and stay in one of our other 91 luxurious rooms.

Because of our 131 years of existence as a hotel, we have wrote and designed a book with the history of our establishment. This could be a great souvenir for you to take back home with your next stay!

My company use this hotel as our resting place during North Sea Jazz festival in Rotterdam- we could always stay in Rotterdam, but the staff, the rooms, and the general vibe of this place just keep on pulling us back each year.

Rooms are palatial, befitting the building, without being opulent and grotesque. Beds are ridiculously comfortable, and the bathrooms are fitted with enormous rain showers, which certainly did the trick after a day and night walking around to revive and refresh!

Can't wait to come back next year!

Dear Traveller,

We are grateful that you have chosen our hotel in The Hague instead of other hotels in Rotterdam. We are glad to hear that our amenities in the room made your stay even better. The next time you are in our hotel during North Sea Jazz Festival we advise you to experience our famous high tea which will revive you even more after a long day of walking around.

We cannot wait to welcome you back to Hotel Des Indes next year!

Kind regards,

The Hotel Des Indes is in a great location and it is a very pretty hotel. My room was on the small side but very nice. My only complaint was I wasn't impressed with the service in the lounge. It took a while before anyone would come over to take my order, the service was pretty slow and the server not very friendly. I would stay there again but would go somewhere else for a drink.

Have stayed here on business a number of times, and always come away happy with the place. The new barman(English) was excellent and meant that I travelled back to LCY on a light plane (bumpy) with a terrible hangover. Rooms are sumptuous and elegant. Good bathrooms.
