“Why Stay Anywhere Else in Den Haag?! Style+Substance+Service”
Reviewed 19 September 2013

Residenz artfully and gracefully combines style with substance with service. We picked Residenz based on TripAdvisor reviews and could not have been more delighted. The owners were prompt and patient communicators before we arrived. When we checked in they worked to help us feel comfortable and enthusiastic about their home city: they gave us museum passes, filled our public transport cards, helped us map out routes, and made dinner reservations. The breakfast was stunning to the eye and palate, and the high-style rooms made one feel like a celebrity. The amenities were lovely and useful, matching the generally perfect taste of the owners. We will return!

Room Tip: We tried both front and back rooms, and preferred the front. The street is quiet, and the front room...

The hotel itself is beautiful. As soon as you step into the entrance hall you instantly notice the care and attention given to design and style. The room we had was a great size, perfect for the two of us and even had a little balcony. There is a fire which would be perfect for the winter with a bottle of wine retrieved from the well stocked cellar! The shower is phenomenal and a welcome change from some of the so-called 'top' hotels. Tea and coffee making facilities along with a fridge are provided free of charge. The breakfast was very tasty and Frank brought it up to our room, he couldn't have done more for us during our short stay. The freshly squeezed orange juice and freshly baked croissants were sublime! There is also a gym directly across the street. This is our second visit to The Hague, I only wish we had found this place the first time!

We stayed 3 nights at the Residenz in late August, part of a driving tour of Holland & Belgium. The house is on a smart square in Duinoord, a very pleasant quiet affluent suburb, but the real impact is on the inside, where the scale of the rooms is impressive, and the decor is striking.
We had a choice of rooms but took one at the back of the house, guessing it might be a little cooler in the summer months. The 'room' is in reality a small suite, a living area with a fireplace and balcony, adjacent to the bedroom and en suite. Very comfortable and high-spec beds, and a very well appointed bathroom.
Breakfast was excellent quality and plentiful, and served in the impressive dining room of the house. (Although an in-room option exists).
Parking is (unusually) charged in the evening not during the day, and it's only fair to note that the overnight cost adds around €10 per night. However, Frank & Petra kindly do the work for you and provide a charged-up parking permit during your stay.
Unlike other reviews we would recommend staying in Duinoord, as it is quiet, has a nice atmosphere, and there are a number of pretty good local dining options within a short walk. The Indonesian recommended by Petra (Didong) is excellent quality, and we also enjoyed a couple of excellent meals at the pleasantly informal corner cafe Eetcafe Lokaal. The trams are close by (again Petra kindly helped us with charging up a travel card), and you are in the centre in around 10 minutes.
It was a more expensive place that we might normally select but the combination of quality, quiet and really very helpful service and advice from our hosts made it worthwhile.

Stayed here for 2 nights as part of a tour of the Netherlands and we were greeted by the very friendly owners of this guest house. We were given a choice of rooms which was awesome and a first experience! The room was utterly amazing; spacious; fireplace; balcony overlooking the quiet residential square; huge bathroom; Rituals toiletries; complimentary water and coffee machine with coffee pods provided daily; amazing beds; and the attention to detail in the interior design is faultless.

The option of breakfast in our room, at no extra charge was welcome. On the first morning we had breakfast in the living room which was not ideal as it is in fact the owner’s living room. I think this experience could be greatly improved if a separate small dining area was provided for guests only. But then again, breakfast in the room is an option so that’s probably why.

Frank and Petra were so forthcoming in showing us the map and where to go to eat etc, that I can only praise their hosting.

The main issue for us was the fact that the guest house is in the middle of the Hague, between the harbour and old town. I would have preferred to stay in the centre more but if you are driving or want a very quiet retreat, this is ideal.

I recommend staying here albeit it is a little far from the centre.

Booked a room at the Residenz at the last minute for a quick weekend away. I was looking for a nice place in The Hague, away from the busy beach and casino area. I based my decision on the reviews on Trip Advisor and was not disappointed. My husband and I received excellent service, a very well appointed room, and wonderful breakfast. (Seriously some of the best croissants I've ever tasted!)
We took advantage of the free bicycles, and with Frank's great assistance with directions and maps we rode straight to our destination. He also gave us a good suggestion for dinner.
The property is in a quiet, safe, neighborhood setting - and the parking was easy. Yet it is also convenient to downtown, museums, parks, and public transit.

I stayed in this hotel for three nights. I agree with other reviews in that the house is absolutely beautiful, really nice decoration, clean, beautiful area. Close to the tram that takes you to the city centre.
However, I found the owners a bit odd. Travelling on my own I tried to make a bit of conversation, but there was none of it. Awckward breakfast experience eating on my own in someone's (beautiful) living room, with them around but no speaking to me. The day I was leaving there were no words either, I just assumed I had to leave the keys on the table and go...Not very friendly, the whole experience a bit strange.
But if you go with your partner or friends you may really enjoy it.

We spent two nights in Residenz and really enjoyed it. We were greeted by Frank with a coffee and some explanations about the city after our 2 hour drive. The room was very large, nicely decorated and had a seating area with fire place and television. The only negative point is that the bed consists of 2 mattresses, while we would have preferred one. The bathroom (separate bath and shower) was also quite large and had everything we needed. We ordered the love arrangement (roses and champagne) and they set it up when we got back from dinner (we gave them a call so the champagne would still be cold). In the morning, we had breakfast downstairs (you can also have it in the room) and it was very good: different kinds of bread, cheese, meat, fresh fruit salade, orange juice and eggs (made to order, so you choose what you want). We will certainly return on our next trip to Den Hague.
