It took me a while to find this place, mainly because I marked it's location incorrectly on my map!
But once there I was in heaven. It wasn't very busy when I went in at about 4pm on a Wednesday. It was mainly locals who were propping up the bar so I sat at a table in the window and browsed the beer menu. Like other bars I'd already been to in Antwerp I hadn't heard of most of the beers.
I went to the bar and ordered a bottle of Jessenhofke Bruin and the lady told me to sit back down and she would bring it over, which she did and poured into a Jessenhofke brewery glass.
This is a good place to people watch and to while away the time, so I ordered another beer - this time a Hopus. Again this was poured into a Hopus glass at my table and then, something I have never seen before but had read about, the lady shook the bottle around a bit and then poured the remaining yeasty dregs into a small Hopus shot glass. Oh, and both glasses were placed onto a Hopus beer mat!
It's times like this that you want to sell your house back home in the UK and emigrate to Belgium. I'm a big lover of real ale, craft beers and "proper" pubs back in the UK, but nothing compares to this!
