“Great location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 July 2014 via mobile

We stayed at Banks hotel to kick off a two-week jaunt around Western Europe and were very happy with this as our start.

While difficult to find when driving (perhaps a larger sign would be helpful) the location is excellent, and within walking distance to many points of interest. There is a parking garage and bike rental up the street which was convenient.

Our room was on the smaller side but there was a place for everything and everything had its place. I did find it odd that the toilet and shower were connected in the glass enclosure, but other than that the room was tidy and functional. When accommodations could be made they were done so with haste - An iron was furnished upon request, as was a fan. There could have been a few more coat hangers in the closet, but satisfactory for sleeping (and catching some World Cup highlights before bed)

Staff were helpful and courteous. The reception/concierge was a delightful young girl who had excellent recommendations and personal favorites on where to bike/visit.

Complimentary happy hour snacks and cocktails were a nice touch that we enjoyed. The breakfast however was not worth the price - food was decent, but not worth 17euro/pp.

Overall I would recommend banks hotel.

Rooms are very small, and have poor basic finishing. concrete floor and concrete ceiling ! Balcony announced but you get 20cm of balcony. Wrong creation of expectations. Down lights under the bed, making every hear and dust immediately visible, so dirty look.
Location: near city centrum. So ideal if you wanna be there, else not. Tram station however you need to walk ¼ of km before you can hop on.
Breakfast. No self-serve, measured quantities brought on the table after a long wait. Just one sandwich for 2 persons breakfasting…. Go figure.
Coffee however is self-serving, and long lines here for just one (1) coffee machine. Coffee machine takes hours before filling you cup.
Also here, basic finishing concrete floor and ceiling. Noisy environment when full (concrete ceiling and floor) don’t help there.
Others: modern lobby, would-be design. It looks like young artists are ‘used’ here to display their work, and then put a ridicules price tag on it. Just in case some fool will by.
Reception closes at 20.30. so no 4 stars here.
Price: overcharged, Hilton just a walk away can be as ‘cheep’ with carpet finishing.
Overall conclusion. Hotel has his values, however price is overrated for what it is.

Location: Perfect. Located between the North and South part of Antwerp, next to the restaurants, the main street, the malls and shops, to the pier, and to the Centrum.

Rooms: tiny and basic. And with some nice design touches. For me space is not a big deal, I spend most of the day at the office or the shops, room is only for a shower and sleeping.

Attention: Excellent. Ladies from the front desk are all helpful.

Free drinks&food: at a certain hour of the afternoon the hotel offers free drinks and tapas. Nice touch!

Others: modern lobby, nice inside design, is a good place for lounging.

Important note: reception closes at 20.30, so you need to let yourself in with a key card. Same with the elevator.

Room Tip: Single rooms are TINY (bed, room, wardrobe).

I don't recommend this place for this price, even though the location is great and the basic service is okay. It's the gap between expectation and experience. This is by far not a design hotel apart from the nicely furnished lobby. Pretentious place in many ways: rooms are dark, too small, cheaply furnished with way too soft beds and curtains with dirty stains. Spanish people would cry their eyes out if they see what the hotel serves as "tapas" and personal tips from the reception don'to go any further than the tourist traps and they close at 20:30 (!).

Stayed at the hotel on business, the staff were attentive and professional, the room was good, although it was a suite, but above all the location is excellent, I was driving and it is also quite easy to find.

We headed to Antwerp for a shopping&culture weekend and found Hotel Banks a nice place to stay.
For business or special occasions you go elsewhere, Banks is for leisure.
It’s located very centrally so that we could reach the shopping heaven walking and then bring bags back to our room and go out hunting again.

At Banks they understand very well the needs of this kind of traveller. You want a stylish, comfortable place to stay so they put art in the designy interior and you sleep in a very comfy bed. You want to be fuelled for the day and their breakfast concept with a plate they serve you fits the bill (though for extra, in our view should be included in the room price). You shop till you drop, so they welcome you at the end of the day with some wine&tapas (complimentary!) in their cosy lounge. You take a trip to enjoy your time off and the staff welcomes you accordingly.

One of the things we would have wanted to enjoy was the roof terrace. However, it was closed for renovations. To avoid disappointments it would be fair to inform about this before booking.

Just one final thing, the coffee, oh that was a crime: this far below mediocre stuff from a machine. With coffee there’s only one acceptable way and that is to serve it fresh from the hands of a barista!

Still, our overall experience was very pleasant and we would certainly recommend Banks for a couple of days' stay in the city.

First of all, just to be clear, we experienced Banks as a vey nice hotel. But this was mainly due to the ideal location. The rooms are very basic and small. When you are on a city trip you will probably spend most of the time in town, however, we do think it is nice to retreat after a long day in a room that has a little extra comfort. Here, this is not the case. To me it feels like a hostel. They market it as 'design' and 'trendy' which is pretty smart and reading the reviews, a lot of people fall for it. But to me, it is just a small room with a concrete ceiling and a glass box which is called the bathroom. Due to the minimalistic design and lack of isolation I guess, a lot of noise gets in from the outside. But that is not what I mind, the city sounds are fine to me. But you literally can understand what you're neighbors are saying and everyone crossing the hallway. This is quite a subjective story, so I will share some pros and cons below to help you make a good decision:

Pros:
- location
- location
- Free! (unlimited?) drinks (beer, whine, prosecco, whatever) and tapa's from 4 to 8 pm if I recall correctly.
- bed is very comfortable
- location

Cons:
- Very noisy
- Reception closed after 8.30 pm which gives you a hostel kind of experience.
- Just one toilet (men's) in the public area (think breakfast, tapa's time, or you're check-out day)
- Relatively expensive.
- Small, basic rooms.

We did not have breakfast at the hotel, so I can not share my experience on that one.

In conclusion, we had a great time, but this is mainly due to the fact that Antwerp is such a nice place to visit. The location was convenient, however, Velo (the bikes) make it possible to reach all the interesting places in no-time from any other place in the city. During our next visit to Antwerp, we will skip this hotel. It is just too little value for money. If you pay a bit more, you will get AND a nice location AND a comfy, beautiful room. Maybe a little less trendy ;-)
