“Friendliest staff”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 June 2013

Stayed here for two nights and upon arriving had low expectations due to previous reviews. However, as a college backpacker, this place was ideal. Cheap rooms with everything you need. If you're looking for a five star hotel, don't stay here. If you just need a place to sleep at night, this is perfect. The woman at reception hardly spoke English but was very friendly and as helpful as she could be. Some rooms don't have a shower and the toilets are private in the hallway. Overall pleasant and quaint stay :)

The only thing I will say was this was in a nice area, albeit a good 20 minute walk from the centre or old town areas.
Please make sure when you book you know what you are getting as there was NO toilet or shower in our room and NO facilities where you can shower. 2 communal toilets for each floor just isn't enough considering one didn't have a lock on the door.

The reception areas STINK of smoke and the staff (family??) seem to sit in the main office all day doing just that. You need to leave your key at reception when you leave to get buzzed out so when you return later on in the day you need to be buzzed back in which, depending on how many staff there are could leave you waiting outside for a good 10/15 minutes or so.
The walls aren't very thick so do hope that whoever is staying there at the same time isn't up until 5 that morning if you are looking for a good sleep. There are no vending machines or breakfast so you will need to bring food with you or go out. Which wont be difficult as the disinfectant smelling rooms are tiny.

I know you get what you pay for but 50 euros a night isn't that cheap and all things considered a hostel would have been the better option. I'm not even sure what distinguishes the two as I wouldn't consider this a Hotel. Oh- and make sure you ask for a receipt as I was nearly charged twice!!

POSITIVE:
1. Very friendly people
2. Nice environment (park, museum)
3. Good cleaning

NEGATIVE:

1. Entrance-Exit-Control:
Very strange and oldfashioned system of entrance-exit-control:
You are not allowed to take the key with you. You can not enter or exity your hotel at any time without been checked and let in or out from one of the
Present family members. Feels nowadays very strange and reminds one to something like a correctional-institution.

2. All rooms are VERY small:
In front of the bed about 50cm space, left and right not a meter.

3. NO toilet in the room:
In most of the rooms, specially in those located to the attractive museum-side,
are NO toilets in the room. You have to go out of the room over the corridor.
This is not bearable for 60 or 65 Euros a night and has been overcome since years.

4. NO breakfast:
No breakfast is served, no automat for drinks or coffees is present.

5. OLD infrastructure
The infrastructure like shower, lavabo, toilets are „original“, which means at least 40 or 50 years. Fixed shower-browse with visible tubes like it was common in the last century.
The owner is going to renovate this room by room. BUT:
This will not solve the problem. This Hotel has to be completely remodelled with
More changes as there are planned.
For example the floor-plan has to be changed, walls have to be moved, rooms have to become less in number, but bigger in square-meter.
Everything else is superficial cosmetic and will not help to run this hotel over the next decades. Maybe that the younger generation of the owner familiy as to overcome the lady of the house. BE COURAGOUS, OWNER!

6. Cigarette smell:
Although most of the rooms don’t smell like cigarette, you always and everywhere smell cigarette-smoke. It took us some time until we found the reason:
Some of the quite numberous owner-family, whose members are always present (see above) in the central concierge-room at the entrance/exit, are SMOKING. This smoke spreads out in the whole building through the corridors and stairs and there you have the constant cigarette odoeur in your room.

7. Public Rooms
There is not a square meter of public space within the hotel for e.g. reading a paper or waiting on someone.

First i thought the hotel has its justification for people who want to save money and dont care about size and qualitiy of the rooms.
But for this its still too expensive. For 60 odr 65 euro there should be bigger rooms, a breakfast and a more contemporain sanitary infrastructure.

Room Tip: Rooms to the back in the courtyard are quiet All rooms are very small Most rooms don't have to...
