“Just pray there's no fire...”
Reviewed 1 November 2010

The hotel has a ridiculous elevator system. To avoid this, we tried to get down by the stairs/ fire escapes. Yet we found ourselves trapped, because the emergency exit doors were locked.
The swimming pool has very limited opening hours, which is not indicated on the website. We planned to have a relaxing swim on sunday, but the pool was only open from 8 -11 in the morning.
Furthermore, the website tells there's free wifi; in the Hylitt hotel free means 5 euro per half an hour...
This hotel is clean and looks very nice, the rooms are quiet, but we will definitely not return.

I spent one night at this hotel which was booked for me by my client. The hotel is on a busy street with several restaurants and close to the (very beautiful) central train station. The entrance is not at street level - you need to take the lift to get there. The staff were very professional : quick and helpful.

My room had a double bed and appeared to have been recently decorated in restful shades of brown and ochre. I liked the exotic woods and especially the huge, padded leather headboard. The standard of cleanliness was very high. The desk was large enough to work at. Wifi is available in the room. The bathroom was, in fact, a shower room - I was a bit disappointed as I'd been looking forward to a soak in the tub ! There was no shelf where I could put my things nor a hook behind the door nor rail to hang the hand towel or clothes. Despite the proximity to a busy street, I found my room was very quiet even though I was only on the 2nd floor.

On the negative side, there were a number of things that I did not appreciate : I found the mattress too hard, the flat screen TV on the wall opposite the bed had a very bright digital clock that kept me awake, the walk-in shower was operated by a cheap mixer tap with a lever that was easy to knock when taking a shower. Worst of all, if breakfast is not included in your room rate, they charge Euros 20 ! Better to leave the hotel, walk one block to the left and get a superb breakfast at the "Exki" cafe for Euros 5 ! And charging Euros 5 for 30 minutes of internt access is not justifiable either.

The breakfast was buffet stlye with a good selection of hot and cold food. There is a restaurant on the 6th floor with a good view of the city - I didn't eat there so can't comment on the food. The hotel also has an indoor swimming pool and fitness room, which I didn't try either.

Almost excellent, they just need to pay attention to the details that cheaper hotels get right...

Had a lovely stay at the Hylitt. Yes the lifts are confusing but I have no complaints about this hotel. Staff pleasant, breakfast really good, plenty of choice. The room was lovely and very spacious - I would definately stay here again when in Antwerp.

Went back to Antwerp after many years to take my wife through my past (used to live there). Hyllit was a great choice due to its location and newly renovated wing. Although we had a problem with the AC in our room, the staff were quick to shift us (upgrade too) to another room. In fact, the staff members went out of their way on numerous items to ensure our stay was comfortable.

The only negative was that the gym was not open on full weekends.

Entrance to the hotel is a rather complex procedure, with the reception area on the first floor, and multiple lifts,NONE of which can visit all permutations of street/reception /rooms /rooftop restaurant.I suppose this complexity is for security reasons, but it is confusing at first. At least breakfast is easily found,on the same level as reception, not roof level.
The location is amidst shops ,near the station, and gives no feeling of the more cultural aspects of Antwerp.Traffic noise is high with the windows open. With them closed ,the airconditioning seemed able to cope with a warm day.
The huge room had all the standard business hotel fittings, and was well lit.The bed is two separate twin units placed together, with normal pillows. It was comfortable ,and had the rare luxury of a real blanket, not a labour-saving(for the maid) duvet. It was a change not to have to disembowel a grossly excessive mass of quilt to get something cool enough to sleep under.
This is a reasonably comfortable place to sleep-but it could be anywhere in the Western world.....

A very new room in the heart of Antwerp.
With a lovely rainshower.
But why the old blankets.....
A great turndown...
