“Boutique Hotel with Wacky Design”
Reviewed 5 August 2014

A fairly nondescript hotel from the outside (albeit in a set of 18th century buildings) in a quiet street mid way between the cathedral and the station.
But once you've rang the bell and gained admittance to the imposing entrance hall you realise that this a hotel that has been designed with some style.
Everywhere there are intriguing pieces of one-off furniture and art.
We were upgraded to Room 14 - the "pink room", which was definitely unique. Not sure if I would want my bedroom at home decorated in this style (think psychedelic bubble gum pink wallpaper) but for a one-off luxury night away it was great. (Although I suspect the very open plan bathroom with the glass door may prove how well you really know your partner!)
The view over the interior garden is delightful, and the breakfast (served in a room next to that courtyard) is freshly prepared in the adjacent (also open plan) kitchen.
Not a cheap hotel (and the unexpected extras such as €35 for the underground parking (don't attempt in anything other than a small hatchback!) added up to over €300 for the night.
But I think it was worth it, especially for the friendliness and professionalism of the staff and the chance to stay in something that definitely isn't your standard corporate city centre anonymous box.

Room Tip: All rooms unique so ask when booking if you want something in particular

We stayed here for one night in August, 2014. The hotel itself is a neat old house, with rooms of varying decoration and lots of character. We were originally shown to a room that was head to toe flowered wallpaper, which I found a bit overwhelming, so they gladly moved us to another room that was a bit more sedate (but still interesting). The location within the city is excellent, being easy walking distance to the major tourist spots. The real highlight of the hotel was the staff -- from the check-in to the breakfast in the courtyard to free accommodations for parking, the staff went out of their way in every instance to make our visit a pleasure. Two thumbs up.

A bit like a dream, you arrive and you ring at the door. It is opened by a lovely young lady welcoming you and taking care of your luggage and check in. We received an upgrade and the room was great: high ceilings, big king bed, contemporary decoration. Breakfast was delicious, a mix of buffet and table service by another very nice and helpful young lady. I want also to mention the great and courteous welcome from the gentlemen servicing at night when we came back from a party with friends. Very good experience. Car space available and just steps away from all the sightseeings to explore in Antwerp

My wife and I received a free upgrade to the Presidential Suite! The people were very nice and the bed was one of the best I've slept in.

The decor was beautifully done and very original. The location was perfect for us and we'll be definitely coming back!

In an excellent location to explore Antwerp, you can discover the town on foot from here. The room we had, a suite, was excellent, spacious, nice street view and all in good quality. Design of the hotel is well done, entrance and common areas are nice. Staff is doing there best but the owner had decided that one person can be in charge of everything going on during the weekend, including peak times such as check-out in the morning. Clearly this is not what you'd expect from a hotel claiming this level of luxury. Staff can't be blamed but the owners should rethink if this kind of stinginess on proper staffing fits the kind of hotel they want to be. In the long run this is not the way to go if they want to be in the league of luxury boutique hotels.

We had very mixed feelings about our stay in this hotel. The start was so impolite it was nearly hilarious. You have to ring the doorbel to be let in. The door opens a little we were asked our names and before we were in were asked to hand over our passport and creditcard. No "Welcome", "did you have a good trip" "can we help you with the bags" nothing. When we asked where to leave the car we were told to "just leave it where it was", not mentioning that you have to pay when leaving the car on the street. When we entered the room however we were nicely surprised. It was a large room with a beautiful bathroom that had all the luxury you can think of. It looked out over the courtyard and it was very quiet. The other morning we had breakfast. There was one girl looking after everything. Serving breakfast, the people checking out and the telephone, which meant that we had to ask at the reception to have another coffee (breakfast is Euro 30,- per person). In our view this is not possible in a hotel that wants to maintain a certain standard. You cannot say that the staff was not nice, but they were not up to giving the service level one can expect in such a hotel.
All in all, looking back we had the feeling that we rented an apartment, not stayed in a luxurious hotel.
