Hotel Rubens - Grote Markt

We don't want any other hotel in Antwerp, and I'll tell you why.
Antwerp isn't short of chain hotels, but me and my partner have always find those to be quite dull - where much is offered, but at a bare minimum, standardised, quality.
Colgate smiles are cheap, and strip a hotel of its colors, and it's just a block of concrete.

Not this one, though, from the moment you walk in, until you sign the guest book on your way out, you breathe a homely, friendly atmosphere.
The reception staff knows the city, and is very motivated to let you join in on the fun that is Antwerp.
After a complementary sherry or port (delish!) we are our shown our deluxe garden room with private terrace. My goodness, was the worth the upgrade! Luxurious fabrics and a beautiful garden greet us on entering.
I'm a bit of a clean freak, and found the room nice 'n crisp.

Breakfast is continental, but you can truly taste quality products. I suspect they work with local entrepeneurs. Once again: delish!

One of the best perks about this hotel is the location! Very easy to reach from the station, and we were able to drop off our bags while we hit the town.
Furthermore, everything is so incredibly close-by, compared to back home.
Just let the reception staff pinpoint your go-sees on a map, and you'll have a great time exploring.

Our thanks goes out to the friendly staff and manager, who gave us some excellent dining spots.
See you next year!

This is the ideal hotel if you want to make a city trip to Antwerp - Belgium.
It's a very clean hotel. It's located in a small, silent street so a good night
sleep is no problem there. There is a big bathroom with all the utilities.
There is a big bed placed on some nice parquet. You can also choose for a room with a nice view over the city, over some nice gardens or view on the small street.
In the morning you have breakfast with a large choice, one of the biggest i have ever seen.
If you come by car, i advise to put te car in the public parking lot and walk to the hotel (5 min walk) In the neighbourhood of the hotel it is not very car-friendly

Room Tip: Pick a room with the view on the garden of the hotel !!!!!

Our room was fine -- everything was comfortable, everything worked as it was supposed to -- but there was nothing special about this hotel other than it's good location. It felt like we were the only people staying there. The desk person was helpful but unenthusiastic. It was all just very impersonal and cold -- but entirely adequate. We paid a huge fee to park in a private garage provided by the hotel, but there were no hotel spaces available. Difficult to get in and out of. Breakfast was so so.

Location is pretty good if you want to see the city. Just one street away from the 'Grote Markt', the main square of Antwerp. Plenty of restaurants (mind the tourist traps!) and bars around there.
Parking is possible (paying) in underground garages in the neighborhood, but a short walk is always necessary.
Service is ok, but everybody is showing a little acquiescence. They did not make you feel welcome, and offering a glass of port was not making up for this lack of enthusiasm.
Rooms are getting a bit dated, and in street activity starts early in the morning, sleeping with an open window is not a good idea, unless you have a wakeup call at 06:00...
Breakfast was a bit disappointing, quality of the meat and cheese were low, especially as this hotel tries to sell itself as more upmarket.
Not sure what was missing exactly, this hotel could not charm me. It has some nice looks, but somehow it doesn’t deliver what is expected.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the street side!

Great hotel, brilliant location and service. The breakfast is excellent too. The rooms and decor are slightly dated, but the lobby and downstairs areas arent, but still clean and finctional. Otherwise it's a great hotel with an ideal location too.

This is an averagely good hotel: our room was clean and functional, staff were friendly and helpful. The continental breakfast buffet was large, with plenty of choice of lovely fruit, breads, meat, cheese, and so on. The excellent location and moderately reasonable prices tip this, just about, into a 4* rating from what I would usually consider a 3*.

A real gem in the perfect location in the center of Antwerp. We arrived early and were immediately invited to eat breakfast at their bountiful breakfast buffet. The hotel is elegantly decorated and we were treated warmly each morning by our hostess.
