Owner description: Leopold II had this unusual rail station built as a neo-Baroque monument to the railway age in 1905.

Most people arrive to Antwerp via Central station and it's pretty cool to arrive at a site with so much history. The building is absolutely beautiful and you definitely need to take a picture of it both inside and outside.

I did a day trip to Antwerp and there are lockers for your luggage which is quite cheap for 24hours. I got the largest locker which fit 2 full sized suitcases and it was only EUR 4

best to have a plan as you arrive. Dont wing it, not a bad place to hang out, just confusing. Get good guide books, recommend Rick Steves Europe for info...

This was my second time with a layover at this station. It is breathtakingly beautiful and very clean. We arrived on a Sunday morning so it was not too crowded. Like most large train stations in Europe, it has everything a traveler would need- restaurants, coffee shops, snack kiosks, convenience shops and more. There is an interesting bread vending machine by the side entrance. If you just need that full fresh loaf of bread on your layover, one can be had for Euro 1.90. Although this is a large and busy station, it is a quiet as a library. The escalator leading down to the lowest level is unusual as it flattens out in the middle. There are also lifts on all levels. If you are travelling to or thru Antwerpen, spend an hour at this station....it is definitely worth it.
