The booking was made by a company on the occassion of a workshop organised in the area of Antwerp.

The general idea was a budget hotel (rate about 90 euro/night) in a central location  in
the city.  The place indeed  is very close to the main sites of the city,  to restaurants, and to the shopping district.

The management was completing a renovation with very bad results.  A glass door, without any sign, hardly gave the impression of an hotel entrance. The lobby was dark and narrow, with very limited seating place, and a small reception desk.

In my floor, the  corridors as well as the doors of the rooms were painted in a dark ..orange color.  My room  inside, had black floor,  cheap furniture, very poor lighting and bad color combinations.
It was facing a small square and late in the evening I was disrupted by shouts from apparently drunk people.

The breakfast room was more like a factory canteen with connected tables in raws.  Breakfast was ok, with plenty of juices, cold food, and fresh croissantes.

The limited personnel  (one person per shift) was very kind and willing, however this was not enough to change the general  bad impression.

We spent 3 nights at this property and were very impressed with everything. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the rooms were very nicely done. The hotel is in a great location and close to many places we needed to be. I also enjoyed the breakfast and found there was a great deal of variety to choose from. I would have no issues recommending this hotel to anyone.

This is the former Hotel Cammerporte which is being refurbished under new ownership. The rooms are basic – no frills, but clean and with a good bed. Also the bathroom is freshly painted and clean with sufficient towels, soap and shampoo. The breakfast is continental, with rolls, bread, croissants, boiled egg, ham, cheese and jam. Also yoghurt and fruit is offered. The red and black painted corridors are a bit eerie -and be careful not to touch the door of the elevator while in motion. Currently, the front of the hotel is in scaffolding, and painters started working at 7.45 a.m. Also Nationalestraat is being repaved so there is further building noise. The works should be completed by the end of September.
There is paid parking next to the hotel - cost EUR18 for 24 hours
This is a 2-star hotel, and thus no aircon. A great plus is its location which is absolutely perfect for visiting the historic centre of Antwerp. The reception staff was pleasant – we were given a detailed map and recommendations for shopping and dining. Overall a good choice when visiting Antwerp for a few days,

Under new ownership, rooms are basic as is the breakfast offered. The red decor of the coridors is a wee bit off putting but the rooms have been cleaned up and are fresh and clean. The loo and shower were fine and clan too. There is not a lot of sound pfoofing so if the tennants next door have the TV on you'll here it. Parking is avaible think they plan on starting to charge for it. The lift again its one of those that you do not touch the door area when in motion.
A good city centre location.with free Wi-Fi good for 2 nights or so as again not a lot of wardrobe/luggage space

Room Tip: Watch out for the one way system in Atwerp and be aware of the tram lanes

The reviews of the old Hotel Cammerporte need to be erased because the now Hotel National is under new ownership and they have done a marvelous job updating their hotel. The rooms are spartan but very clean, the showers are great, the beds very comfortable. The breakfast in the morning is very substantial: croissants, rolls, eggs, cheese, fruit, yogurt, juices, coffee and tea. The location is excellent for seeing museums and the old parts of Antwerp. All in all, excellent value! I highly recommend and would stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the fourth floor facing the back. Gorgeous sunsets and a view of a church tower.

Having been to Antwerp a few times, our friends booked us into the Commarporte as they found a good deal on the internet. Great location, but there was no photos we could find.. and now we see why. Upon driving in (€15 a day car parking) checking in, was interesting as we had to side step around a bucket of water that was collecting the drips from the open ceiling, and two staff behind a small desk, sitting down the whole time for check in. One room, one key, and there was three of us in one room. So not great, but we would manage.
Walking up the stairs (I didnt want to risk the lift) ours was on the second floor. We walked onto the second floor and there was an open door straight ahead which looked alright. It appeared to be the show room, as it was more modern than the room we were going to be entering, but no plumbing or lighting either, as it seemed what was to be offered 'in the future'.
Upon opening our room, there was three small single beds in a row where I think a double bed was meant to be. Normally, you get a larger room, but they seemed to figure that three single beds side by side was appropriate. A tiny tv, and a not so clean bathroom, that one of the girls refused to close the shower curtain as it was so dirty.
For €250 for two nights, spread for 3 people, plus €30 car parking, I certainly wouldn't advise this to anyone else. Its really a shame, as its a great location..

Centrally located, staff helpful. Bathroom poor, door was stuck and had to hold the shower while showering.
