“Very nice and individual hotel in Antwerp”
Reviewed 13 September 2011

Very tasteful furnished hotel in Antwerp. The rooms are spacious, my room was extremely quite and cosy. Very good bed and Nespresso coffee machine in the room.
Basic breakfast buffet but very good quality, enough choice.
We had a management meeting there and the meetingroom was satisfying. I would rather recommend this hotel for a weekend stay in Antwerp, the location is close to the nice shopping areas of Antwerp.
Staff was very pleasant.

I booked this hotel based on the reviews from other TA travelers, and was delighted to find this boutique hotel everything and more than expected. Uniquely located in two mid-18th century townhouses near the center of the Old Town, the interiors have been completely reconstructed with every conceivable modern amenity. Although many of the original details of major public rooms, like the "living room" and hotel bar are intact, they are blended with modern and classic furnishings into en exciting and clever mix.

The hotel lobby, although immediately off a busy street, is an oasis of calm and quiet. An inner courtyard with fountain opens off the two major public rooms, with the hotel bar just beyond. A light-filled breakfast room offers a great, well stocked morning breakfast buffet, so try to have that included in your room rate if possible.

Rooms are generous in size, modern in design with much use of local materials (terra cotta block tile flooring, linen upholstery and draperies), The bathrooms are small but efficiently laid out; most have the WC in a separate adjacent area. Large flat screen TV and iPod compatible clocks are standard; the AC/ heating is all new so works flawlessly.

Most impressive was the service we received, particulalry from Iris at the front desk. She made great recommendations and reservations for dinners, mapped out our daily expeditions, and was delightful to work with. I strongly recommend this hotel if you are looking for a unique boutique hotel experience within walking distance of all the major sights of Antwerp.

Having been invited for dinner in Antwerp we decided to stay one night at this hotel. We Had heard some good things about the hotel which made us decide to give it a try.

And a good choice it was.
Friendly staff from entry till departure, at reception, breakfast and at the Spa.
Beautiful interiors. The hotel is a set of old buildings which have been tastefully redecorated.

Our room, an experience room (nr 22), was large with a high ceeling. All amenities were present, including free WIFI. The bathroom is high class with only one minor point for me which is that there is only one sink. I don't like to wait for my wife to be all polished.

Breakfast has a continental buffet with eggs a la carte. Also here the room breathes class.

The Spa is very good. We expected a tiny corner with a tub and a sauna but how wrong we were. Compared to big hotels style Four Seasons or Oberoi the Spa here is as good and well equiped as at these hotels.

Overall I only have small negative comments.
The acoustic at the reception is bad. When there are two people takling at the same time, words bounce all over the place.
Apparently all music is shut down after midnight with the bar open 24 hours. A great bar with a beautiful corner to relax but with two of us in the bar and no music in the background the experience was less then it could have been.
The hotel has no parking but provides a valet parking service.

But these are details. Hotel Julien is a great place with a lot to offer. We'll be back.

We booked the Hotel Julien because it is the No 1 Tripadvisor hotel in Antwerp. It deserves to be. It is in a great location, very close to the cathedral and the historic centre. It is discreet, stylish, contemporary and intimate and the service is unobstrusive and friendly.. The hotel is in an old town house and has been restored tastefully, stylishly and expensively. It is not cheap - we had one of the cheaper rooms, but we felt it was worth the price. Our room was on the top floor in a former attic. It was furnished in a minimalist style but worked very well. The bed was comfortable with good bed linen and pillows. A comfortable chair would have been nice, but I am being picky here. There was a large bathroom with marble floor and underfloor heating. The shower was 'wet room style' which is always a bit messy, though not a real problem. Breakfast was one of the nicest I have had in a hotel. It was buffet style and presented very well with delicious fruit, breads, cheeses, cooked meats etc in a really nice breakfast room. This hotel will not disappoint.

We had great expectations after reading all the positive feedback given to Hotel Julien.
Here is our experience: We travel extensively and was enroute to US from Dubai with a layover in Amsterdam. We took a train to Antwerp for a change from the usual stay in Amsterdam.

We try not to stay in chain hotels whenever possible. Tired, we checked into Hotel Julien.
The desk clerk was less then welcoming. We were in a room in the old section of the hotel. The room was small even by city standards. The decor was barren with a low bed and a single chair. The carpet was filthy (really gross)in the room as well as common areas.

The community areas are very pleasant and decorated with a modern mix. Very tasteful but sparse.

Breakfast room was very pleasant with a healthy selection of foods.

Also please note that there is no spa in the hotel. The hotel calls someone in to perform spa services.

Our family of 4 stayed here for 3 nights. The hotel is fantastic. It is well located near the Cathedral, Grotemarkt, and within walking distance (5-15 minutes) to the shopping area, MAS and even Central Station.

The hotel is inside 2-3 old buildings on Korte Nieuwstraat which is a narrow one way street with tram running on it. We parked our car at the Meir shopping parking for €17 a day and walked 3-4 min to the hotel.

The building is lovely with high ceilings and very nicely renovated. We stayed in the Julian Experience room which was a large room facing the street. Bathroom was huge with a massive bath and separate shower and toilet.

Breakfast was included in the rate and whilst simple was delicious with a choice of ham, salmon, cured ham, cheeses, yoghurt, fruits, croissants, bread, etc. etc. Eggs can be made to order.

This is our second time in Antwerp and I cannot recommend this hotel enough for any visitors looking for a relaxing, comfortable, boutique, quiet place to stay within walking distance to most landmarks. Service was also excellent.

We stayed here one night. As the hotel is on a narrow street used by trams, you can't stop to unload and check in, but there is a car park about 150 metres away. The hotel is very well located for walking to Antwerp's main sights.

The receptionists we dealt with were both very charming and helpful, recommending and booking an excellent restaurant called "de Zavel".

The hotel is beautifully designed, especially the public areas, but our room and bathroom were blandly contemporary, being almost totally white. Our "Julien Experience" room was on the top floor with no real view (except, bizarrely, for a nice rooftop view towards the cathedral when sitting on the toilet!). It was however spacious and well furnished, with an excellent bathroom (apart from the positioning of that toilet).

Breakfast was of a very high quality, with superb croissants.

Room Tip: Not the top floor
