My friend and I stayed over for one night on a recent cycling holiday. The hotel is located in the centre of Mechelen - we were ever surprised at what a nice City Mechelen - it reminded me of a smaller version of Brugge.
Our hotel room overlooked the front of the hotel and the main street - but it was nice and quiet overnight. The decor was a little dated but the room was clean, nice and comfortable - with lovely sumptuous pillows (I normally hate hotel pillows and usually take my own but wasn't able to do this time).
On the first evening we ate at the little restaurant/bistro that was adjoining the restaurant our meal was included in the package it appeared to be a private restaurant catering for hotel guests. The service was brilliant - staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was excellent, plentiful (proper portions for hungry people who have cycled 40 miles), all home cooked, delicious and attractively presented.
In the morning we had breakfast in the hotel restaurant and again breakfast was delicious with lots of choice and plenty of food to ensure we were well nourished and ready for a long bike ride.
Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful.
An excellent place to stop and to explore Belgium and not as busy as Brussels or Brugge.More
