“A nice hotel in a good location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 April 2013

My wife and had a pleasant two nights stay at the hotel over Easter.
The hotel is located just on the edge of Waterloo, and takes about 10 minutes to walk into the town. There are a few restaurants and bars near by, and just over the road is a large Supermarket.
The town did seem to shut down on a Sunday, making it quite restricted for eating out. The Hotel bar was also closed.
We stayed in the Lodge which is adjacent to the main Hotel. The room was nicely decorated. The only downside for us was that the air conditioning was noisey even when switched off. It wasn't anoying enough to complain, but was quite distracting.
The breakfast taken in the main hotel was excellent, with a large variety of hot and cold food.
If we were in the area again, we would certainly consider staying there again, as long as the price was right.

Room Tip: Request your preference of a twin or double room when booking. Avoid room 11 as the aircon was noise...

This year my father and I decided on a change during our annual trip to Walcheren, to commemorate the Liberation in November 1944. We would usually sail straight into Rotterdam, but this year my father wanted to see the memorial to 1918 war, at Zebrugge. Whilst in Belgium, we decided to take in the Waterloo museums, which were very interesting. We stayed at The Martins Grand Hotel, in the Martins Lodge. The facilities were excellent. My father is in a wheelchair, and the access and layout of the bedroom and bathroom were first rate. Disabled access to the main hotel was via a side entrance, over a cobbled surfice, which was a slight hinderence. The resturaunt was very grand, and the food was delicious, and served by very attentive staff. Check in and check out was very smooth.
We only stayed the one night, but I would return if in the area again

Room Tip: I can only comment on our room, which was a disabled accessable room. If you do travel with a disabl...

We stayed here for 3 nights to see the Waterloo battlefield and found the rooms to be clean, quiet and comfortable. You sleep in the lodge, which is right next to the hotel, and the bar, restaurant and fitness room is in the hotel part. The breakfast was plentiful and of a good quality. I would have liked tea and coffee makings in the room but this is a small point. I would definitely stay here again.

This is a really nice, cosy and comfortable place to stay. I've stayed there on many occasions and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Cleanliness is excellent and has that "fresh" feel about it.
It is not five star, but, as it ajoins the Grand Hotel, it would give some of those a run for their money.
The breakfast is very good, has free car parking and is within one hour from Brussels.
I found it reasonable, but, you need to make prior reservations.

Room Tip: Can be an easy location for business trips and some historical sites are nearby. It is quiet. Some v...

Booked in for 5 nights to play golf on courses within a 45 minute radius. Service was very good, cleanliness could not be questioned and the lodge itself was very quiet at night even though it was full. Parking on site. Breakfast was varied and plentiful including hot and cold items. Free internet and wi fi available. Short walk to the town or nearby bars and restaurants. Did not eat or drink in the hotel other than breakfast as it was a bit more expensive than local fare. Close to main motorway which made for easy travelling. Would use this hotel again.

I stayed here for work in December. I had a reservation for 2 nights but due to snow and flight issues I was running a day late. Impressively there was no charge for the night we did not show up which was a nice surprise.

The Lodge is nice and cosy but I did have some problems with the heating. I think I was tired, sick and jet lagged but the room seemed very cold to me.
The other down side was the lack of tea and coffee facilities in the room. I had a mild flu so was taking a lot of lemsips and it cost €1.50 for a tiny cup of hot water which as you can imagine was frustrating and got expensive quickly.

The parking was very easy though it was not cleared of snow which made pulling my suitcase quite difficult.

Also having just returned from the states the room did seem rather on the small side.

However the location was brilliant for me and it was veery easy to find (I had hired a car) and the ensuite bathroom was lovely.
The staff were also very friendly and helpful and all spoke brilliant English.

Attached to the Grand, which is where you go for breakfast & booking in . The Grand is four star so you enjoy the benefit of this higher grade. Breakfasts are exceptionally good & include cooked eggs ,bacon etc which is unusual for a european hotel. The rooms are a bit cramped & the shower rooms are huge.Had the Designer reduced the shower room to a sensible size the bedroom area would be a much more sensible size. Waterloo is not particularly well appointed for restaurants, but if you turn right outside the hotel there are two within a couple of minutes walk. There is also a large pub which serves food a couple of minutes walk in the opposite direction. The price of dinner in the hotel is expensive, unless you are on an expense account! Ensure breakfast is included in you board terms or else you will find that to be expensive too. There is plenty of free parking attached to the Hotel. The front desk staff are very helpful & friendly,& all speak very good English. There is no tea making facility in the room ,but there is a vending machine in the foyer of the Lodge.
